Novemeber 21st, 2012 - Tumblin' In The Afterglow

Hey there beer and music lovers! The Meista here with another pairing for you... tonight I'm pairing Black Country Communion's latest album, "Afterglow" (which I just picked up yesterday) and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company's Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale. And check out that bad-ass guitar pint glass my pal Amy P. gave me! Thanks Amy! Cheers... this one is for you my friend!!

The Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale pours an opaque, deep brown with a frothy, 1.5-2 finger head. There's also strong and sustained lacing from that creamy head. The nose is subtle and light with notes of toasted malt, nuts, smoked bark, and earth. The flavor is layered with notes of toasted bread, roasted hazel, toffee, and some smokiness in the finish. There's a slight pine kick as well from the hops, but all-in-all, this is a very smooth, silky, and malty beer. It has great flavor and is a great beer for kicking back and listening to the heavy, bluesy power that is Black Country Communion!

Rich, complex, deep, layered, heavy... all great attributes of Black Country Communion's sound. Essentially a "super group," the members of Black Country Communion bring their own unique styles to create perfection on "Afterglow." Glenn Hughes' amazing, soulful, and powerful voice and bass work, Joe Bonamassa's wonderful guitar work and distinctly smooth voice, Derek Sherinian's blistering and funky keys, and Jason Bonham's thunderous and brutal drumming all make up this profound sound. And that sound is like early 1970's hard rock in the style of UFO, Humble Pie, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple, yet with a freshness to the musical voice that is very rare these days. From the opening note of "Big Train" to the final note of "Crawl," BCC grabs you and won't let go... this is music that insists you pay attention. I have to sit down to listen to these guys! Songs like "This Is Your Time," Midnight Sun," "Confessor," and "Common Man" are fast-paced rockers that will knock you on your ass and then pick you right back up again! "Cry Freedom," "Afterglow," The Circle," and "The Giver," are bluesy, grooving monsters in their own rights. If you are a fan of heavy, bluesy, classic rock, you MUST own this album!

Check out the Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale and all the other fine craft beers from Sierra Nevada at www.sierranevada.com. And if you love good old-fashioned hard rock (especially when fronted by the amazing Glenn Hughes) like I do, hit up the Heavy Metal Shop (www.heavymetalshop.com) for Black Country Communion's latest album, "Afterglow"... and tell Kevin that Victor sent ya!

With "Afterglow" spinning and a Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale in your glass you will definitely have a good night my friends! Cheers!
