December 31st, 2013 - The Old Sage Brett Revisits Genesis For The Second Time... An "Epic" End To 2013

Hello!  The Meista here pairing an Old Sage Brett Saison-Brett Golden Ale from Epic Brewing Company and Steve Hackett's "Genesis Revisited II" on this final day of 2013!

A one-off, the Old Sage Brett Saison-Brett Golden Ale is almost more of a Gueuze that a Saison.  Brewed with rosemary, thyme, and a good helping of sage, along with Brettanomyces yeast, it is then aged in left over casks used for Epic's Brainless on Peaches.  It pours a bright and cloudy golden yellow with a frothy, white head.  The nose is characterized by farmhouse "funk," citrus tartness, and more subtle sweetness.  There are notes of Exceptionally tart, the Old Sage Bret is characterized by sharp citrus notes, white wine/chardonnay notes, and farmhouse funk.  There are also subtle hints of sweet peach and blended spices from the cask aging.  For a brew with this kind of complexity, depth, and intriguing flavor, I needed an album of equal brilliance...

"Genesis Revisited II" is Steve Hackett's double-album sequel to 1996's "Watcher Of The Skies: Genesis Revisited" and was released on October 22, 2012.  The album consists of Hackett covering selected tracks from the early and progressive years of the band Genesis when both Hackett and Peter Gabriel were still members as well as a couple of Hackett's tunes from his early solo albums.  Accompanying Hackett in this brilliant undertaking is a huge cast of musicians and vocalists including Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth, Bloodbath, Storm Corrosion), John Wetton (King Crimson, Uriah Heep, U.K., Asia), Roine Stolt (Flower Kings, Transatlantic),  Steve Rothery (Marillion), Neal Morse (Spock's Beard, Transatlantic), Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Storm Corrosion), Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo, Iona), Francis Dunnery (Aquarian Nation), Conrad Keely (...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead), among many others!  I won't go into detail on how incredible this album really is executed, but I think many of these tracks are better than the originals... definitely a bit edgier!  Here's the full list of tracks from this amazing album!
