January 10th, 2014 - Lagunitas Sucks Sticky Fingers!

Good evening!  The Meista here with another rockin' pairing for ya tonight... a Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale from Lagunitas Brewing Company out of Petaluma, California and some classic Stones... "Sticky Fingers"!!

Originally brewed "in 2011 as a Brown Shugga’ substitute, due to construction-induced capacity issues," the Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale from Lagunitas Brewing Company is a tasty, but biting 7.85% ABV American Double / Imperial India Pale Ale (IIPA).  It pours a clear and bubbly, light golden amber with a frothy white head that leaves billowy lacing.  The nose is big and piney with hints of sweetness and malts.  Along with those big pine aromas, there are notes of citrus, floral hops, sweet toffee, and fresh peaches.   The flavor is characterized by a perfect balance of a clean, floral, and hoppy bite along sweeter malt flavors and a hint of spice.   You get some really nice red grapefruit flavors as well.  One thing I can tell you is that Lagunitas Sucks Brown Shugga Substitute Ale definitely does not suck!!  This is a kick-ass, brilliantly brewed IIPA!!  And speaking of brilliant and kick-ass...

Recorded in the summer of 1970 and released in April of 1971, "Sticky Fingers" is the 11th American (9th British) studio album by rock and roll legends The Rolling Stones. What I absolutely adore about this album is the somewhat raunchy, down-and-dirty, bluesy and soulful rock and roll depth in each song!   And each song just kicks ass!  Along with lead vocals, Mick Jagger plays acoustic guitar on "Dead Flowers" and "Moonlight Mile", rhythm guitar on "Sway", and percussion on "Brown Sugar".  Keith Richards provides his fantastic rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar on "Brown Sugar", "You Gotta Move", "I Got the Blues" and "Sister Morphine", twelve string acoustic guitar on "Wild Horses", lead guitar on "Wild Horses", the first part of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and "Bitch", co-lead guitar on "Dead Flowers", and backing vocals.  Charlie Watts provides the perfectly rhythmic drumming.  Bill Wyman provides bass guitar and electric piano on "You Gotta Move." The album would also be the first to feature guitarist Mick Taylor after the untimely death of guitarist and founding member Brian Jones.  Guest musicians include Ry Cooder (slide guitar on "Sister Morphine"), Billy Preston (organ on "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" and "I Got the Blues"), Bobby Keys (saxophone), and Nicky Hopkins (piano on "Sway", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"), among others!  Along with the provocative album cover, "Sticky Fingers" was the first Stones album to feature their trademark "tongue and lips" logo (designed by Ernie Cefalu).  Everyone should own a copy of this legendary album... rock and roll perfection!!!

Cheers!!
