Hello and welcome! This silly blog is an experiment in my own vanity in terms of my opinions on craft beer and music and various pairings (much like you would do with food). I definitely want to express that I am no expert in terms of brewing or in musical composition. This is merely opinion, my opinion (sometimes clouded by consumption) with regards to enjoyable beers and music. Cheers! April 11th, 2014 - Circling The Jack Wagons With The Circle Jerks (IV Times)
Oy! Afternoon friends! The Meista here pairing "IV" by the Circle Jerks and a Jack Wagon Wheat Beer from Shades Of Pale Brewing Company out of Park City, Utah!
Contrary to popular belief the album's title, "IV" is actually the 5th studio album from Los Angeles hardcore punk band the Circle Jerks and was released in 1987. With a penchant for the sarcastic, vocalist Keith Morris' lyrics are similar to the previous ("Wonderful") album's poppier, rock and roll sound. Musically, "IV" is a bit slower than previous outings and has a touch of metal and classic rock along with their signature punk sound. (This combination of styles would help influence the grunge sound that followed in the next decade.) Guitarist Greg Hetson (also guitarist of Bad Religion) provides fast and fiery riffs over the aggressive bass (Zander Schloss) and drums (Keith Clark). Favorite tracks of mine on this little gem include "Beat Me Senseless", "Patty's Killing Mel", "American Way", "Fortunate Son" (CCR cover), and "All Wound Up" (among others)! I picked up this album about 20 years ago at the iconic Raunch Records here in Salt Lake City... check them out!! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Raunch-Records/134410619919996
Jack Wagon Wheat Beer from Shades Of Pale Brewing Company is an American Hefeweizen. It pours a hazy, straw gold with a bright, white, 2-finger, frothy head that displays good lacing and strong retention. The nose has a nice organic thing going. There are aromas of citrusy lemon, wheat bread, and light grass. Higher in carbonation, the mouthfeel of this lighter bodied brew is crisp and clean. The flavor is a combination of bready malts and citrusy tart. There are notes of honey wheat bread, sourdough bread, a hint of nutty notes, lemon zest, yeasty, some very slight banana notes, and a bit of white pepper. The Jack Wagon goes down easy and smooth with some nice tartness... a fun, poppier beer that goes great with the fast-paced antics of the Jerks!!
Cheers!!
