May 29th, 2014 - An Off-Duty Officer's Run In With A Mechanical Poltergeist

Hello friends!  The Meista here pairing an Off Duty IPA from Utah Brewers Cooperative (Squatters Brewery) and "Ghost In The Machine" by The Police!  This pairing goes out to my bro, Dain-o!!  Cheers man!!

Released on October 2nd, 1981, "Ghost In The Machine" is the 4th studio album by English pop-rock/reggae-rock/new wave band The Police.  As with the album's title, much of the lyrical material on the album was inspired by the philosophical work of the same name by Arthur Koestler.  A bit "poppier" than the previous albums, "Ghost In The Machine" found the band experimenting more with the use of horns and synthesizers (much to the chagrin of guitarist Andy Summers).  The band of course was Sting (bass guitar, double bass, keyboards, saxophone, lead and backing vocals), Andy Summers (guitars, guitar synth, keyboards), and Stewart Copeland (drums, miscellaneous percussion, keyboards).  Man this album swings!

The Off Duty IPA from Utah Brewers Cooperative (Squatters Brewery) is a rather mellow 6.5% ABV American-Style India Pale Ale in the classic sense.   It pours a slightly hazy clover honey gold with a thin white head that leaves trace lacing.  The nose is fairly soft with a combination of grassy hops and sweet toffee aromas.  There are notes of toasty biscuit, honey, and juniper.  Light bodied, the mouthfeel is sharp, crisp, and refreshing with a slight stickiness.  The flavor is citrusy and grassy.  There are notes of lemon zest, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon grass, and caramel malt.  It goes down easy and finishes clean... a great summer brew that works well with the swinging reggae/pop rock sounds of The Police!

Cheers!!
