May 31st, 2014 - Three Wise Monkey Fists

Good evening my friends!  The Meista here pairing "Three Wise Monkeys" by Alberto Rigoni and a Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA from Shipyard Brewing Company out of Portland, Maine!  This pairing goes out to Mr. Rigoni who not only hooked me up with his wonderful album, but has been waiting patiently for me to post a pairing... Salute Alberto!!  (Sorry it took so long!)

"Three Wise Monkeys" is the breathtaking 3rd album by the brilliant Italian progressive rock composer and bass player Alberto Rigoni.  Along with Rigoni's amazing bass work, the following guest musicians appear on the album: Göran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, Brazen Abbot), Jonas Erixon (Alicate), Kevin Moore (ex-Dream Theater, OSI, Chroma Key), Mark Cross (Outloud, ex-Helloween, Firewind), Federico Solazzo (Alexia), Alessandro Bertoni (Aphelion), Mistheria (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Rock), Tommy Ermolli (TwinSpirits), Simone Mularoni (DGM, Empyrios), Paolo Valli (session drummer), Paco Barillà (Daniele Liverani), Sebastian Persini (solo artist, session drummer).  Released on October 1st, 2012, "Three Wise Monkeys" is a wonderfully rich progressive rock album that fuses jazz, electronic, and ambient sounds with more aggressive hard rock.  This is powerful and though-provoking music that demands your attention!  If you are a fan of Dream Theater, Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, and the like, then you really need to check out Alberto Rigoni!!  Learn more about this dynamic musician at http://albertorigoni.bandcamp.com/

I had the pleasure of experiencing the Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA in an Irish pub in Boston, MA last month.  I think the assertive hop-forward flavor and the sweet and malty backbone of this brew makes for a great pairing with the complex progressive compositions of Alberto Rigoni's "Three Wise Monkeys".  The Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA pours a slightly hazy orange-amber hue with a frothy head in a pint glass.  The 1-2 finger head is thick and billow, leaving nice, curtainy lacing behind.  The nose is a combination of bright citrus and bready malts.  The mouthfeel is crisp, dry, and refreshing.  The flavor is a wonderful blend of hops and malts.  Brewed with Cascade hops, the flavor is rather hop forward with lots of solid citrus notes.  This is wonderfully balanced with malty sweetness.  Very drinkable, the Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA ends with a nice, dry, and clean finish.

Salute!!
