Guid eenin! The Meista here with another rockin' pairing for ya tonight! This evening I'm going with "Greatest Hits" by Scottish rockers Nazareth and a Squatters Wee Peat from the Utah Brewers Cooperative!
Nazareth's "Greatest Hits" from A&M Records is a collection of exactly that... some of the band's best material from the 1970s. Hailing from Dunfermline, Nazareth is the quintessential hard rock group of Scotland with a whole slew of killer hits. Bluesy, raw, aggressive, and honest rock and roll, all attributes of this kick-ass album. Favorites for me include "This Flight Tonight", "Expect No Mercy", "(Walk Me Out In The) Morning Dew", "Hair Of The Dog" (one of the greatest hard rock songs ever!), "Razamanaz", "Broken Down Angel", "Shanghai'd In Shanghai", and "Go Down Fighting". Here's the full track list:
- "This Flight Tonight"
- "Expect No Mercy"
- "Love Hurts"
- "(Walk Me Out In The) Morning Dew"
- "Carry Out Feelings"
- "Hair Of The Dog"
- "Razamanaz"
- "Love Leads To Madness"
- "I Want To (Do Everything For You)"
- "Holiday"
- "Star"
- "Dressed To Kill"
- "Broken Down Angel"
- "My White Bicycle"
- "Heart's Grown Cold"
- "Shanghai'd In Shanghai"
- "Go Down Fighting"
- "Cocaine"
The Squatters Wee Peat pours a slightly hazy rust brown with a half-finger, creamy off-white head that leaves good lacing. The nose is sweet and mossy. There are aromas of malty sweet bread, toffee, and musty old books. Light to medium bodied with fairly low carbonation, the mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The taste is characterized by malty, smoky, and grainy flavors. There are notes of peat, barley malt, hearty multi-grain bread, liquid smoke, caramel, a hint of molasses, and dark fruits like raisin, plum, and fig. Coming in at 5.6% ABV, the Wee Peat is a complex, yet easy drinkin' brew that works perfectly with the hard rockin' goodness of Nazareth!!
Slainte Mhath!!
