August 18th, 2014 - Double Aces

Good evening!  The Meista here going with the (maybe too obvious) kick-ass pairing of "Ace Of Spades" (1996 Reissue) by English metal power trio Motörhead and an Ace Of Spades India Pale Ale (IPA) from Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) outta Portland, Oregon!  Hails!!

Released on November 8th, 1980, "Ace Of Spades" is Motörhead's 4th studio album and the debut American release for the band.  One of the greatest metal albums ever recorded, "Ace Of Spades" is the quintessential Motörhead album and one of the most influential for not only metal bands, but punk, and hard rock in general.  The band at the time was of course made up of the legendary lineup: Lemmy Kilmister on bass and lead vocals, "Fast" Eddie Clarke on guitar and lead vocals on "Emergency" (1996 Reissue version), and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor on drums.  Fast-paced, gritty, and mean, "Ace Of Spades" is a wonderful ride!  Each track is a monster rocker!  Simply put, this album KICKS. ASS.  Here's the full track list of the reissued version:
  1. "Ace Of Spades"
  2. "Love Me Like A Reptile"
  3. "Shoot You In The Back"
  4. "Live To Win"
  5. "Fast And Loose"
  6. "(We Are) The Road Crew"
  7. "Fire, Fire"
  8. "Jailbait"
  9. "Dance"
  10. "Bite The Bullet"
  11. "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch"
  12. "The Hammer"
  13. "Dirty Love" (bonus track)
  14. "Please Don't Touch (bonus track)
  15. "Emergency" (bonus track)
And speaking of kick-ass...

The Ace Of Spades IPA from HUB is a big, bold, and beautifully aggressive double IPA... a match made in heaven for the likes of Motörhead!  This 22 ounce, 9.2% hop bomber pours a wonderfully cloudy copper-orange with a thin, white head that displays good lacing.  The nose is a pungent blend of aromatic hops and malty goodness.  There are big complex aromas of pine resin, citrus, tropical fruit, tobacco, and caramel.  Very hop forward, the mouthfeel is fairly smooth, yet biting for this full-bodied brew.  The flavor of the Ace Of Spades is wonderfully complex in its aggressive hoppy taste.  There are notes of juicy grapefruit, mango, burnt toffee, biscuit, pine, and black tea.  The finish is rich and bitter and leaves a nice, lingering piney bite.  Like Motörhead's album, the Ace Of Spades IPA from HUB is a rockin' good ride!!

Cheers and hails!!
