January 23rd, 2015 - Burning The Sun With A Geen Bullet

Hallo... god dag!  The Meista here pairing "Burn The Sun" from Norwegian progressive metal/power metal band Ark and a Geen Bullet Triple India Pale Ale (IPA) from Green Flash Brewing Company!  This pairing goes out to my buddy Jeff... cheers man!!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Ark
  • Title: "Burn The Sun"
  • Release date: March 23rd, 2001
  • Record company: InsideOut Music
  • Personnel: the late Randy Coven (bass), Jørn Lande (vocals), John Macaluso (drums), Mats Olausson (keyboards), and Tore Østby (guitars)
  • Musical style: Power metal/progressive metal/progressive rock
  • Sound: Intricate, fast-past, bombastic, and aggressive, "Burn The Sun" has musical elements of Dream Theater, Dio, Fates Warning, and Rainbow, and Lande's power vocal delivery is reminiscent of  Ronnie James Dio and David Coverdale.
  • Major themes: Religion, self-discovery, science fiction, love, and loss
  • Notes: After a tour to support the album, Ark went on an extended hiatus that eventually led to their break up, with Lande joining Masterplan as well as pursuing his amazing solo career.
  • Tracks:
  1. "Heal The Waters"
  2. "Torn"
  3. "Burn The Sun"
  4. "Resurrection"
  5. "Absolute Zero"
  6. "Just A Little"
  7. "Waking Hour"
  8. "Noose"
  9. "Feed The Fire"
  10. "I Bleed"
  11. "Missing You"
  Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Green Flash Brewing Company
  • Website: http://www.greenflashbrew.com/
  • Brew: Green Bullet Triple IPA
  • Style: Imperial India Pale Ale
  • Serving: 12 ounce bottle
  • ABV: 10.10%
  • Pour: Slightly hazy orange-golden amber with a thin off-white head with some nice lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is hoppy and fruity.  Less citrus than I expected.  There are lots of big fruity aromas of pineapple, peaches, grape, and grapefruit along with bold malt and pine resin aromas.
  • Taste: A bit boozy up front, the taste is complex, quite bitter, and bold, yet very drinkable.  There are notes of pine, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, caramel/toffee, and black tea.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and moderately carbonated, the mouthfeel of the Green Bullet is smooth, but with a bitter, dry, and boozy bite.
  • Finish: The finish is fairly clean and dry...  quite refreshing for such a high ABV brew.
Overall pairing:  The aggressiveness and bold complexity of the Green Bullet Triple IPA makes for a great companion to the intricate and progressive power metal style of Ark's "Burn The Sun"!

Skål!!
