February 5th, 2016 - The Pineapple Beat Of A Flamingose And The Absent Lover

Good evening!  Your pal Meista here tonight with a rather odd pairing... King Crimson's amazing "Beat" and the brand new Flamingose Pineapple Gose from Uinta Brewing Company!

Album Info:
  • Artist: King Crimson
  • Title: "Beat"
  • Recorded: Early 1982
  • Release date: June 18th, 1982 (9th studio album by King Crimson)
  • Record company: E.G.
  • Production: Rhett Davies
  • Album cover art: Rob O'Connor
  • Personnel: Adrian Belew (guitars, lead vocals, and additional drums), Bill Bruford (drums and percussion), Robert Fripp (guitar, organ, and Frippertronics), and Tony Levin (bass guitar, Chapman stick, and backing vocals)
  • Musical style: Progressive rock, experimental rock, math rock, Avant garde jazz, electronic rock, new wave
  • Sound: As with all music composed and played by the mighty King Crimson, the songs employ intricate time signatures and tempos, haunting electronic sounds, and wonderful precision.
  • Major themes: Heavily influenced by writings of the Beat Generation, the lyrics on "Beat" are rather abstract, sometimes bizarre, and completely honest.  Themes include love, lust, friendship, beauty, wonder, traveling, growth, coming of age, etc.
  • Note: I purchased "Beat" on vinyl (the one pictured) way back in the mid-80s at a library sale for only 10 cents!  Yes, 10 cents!!
  • Tracks:
  1. "Neal And Jack And Me"
  2. "Heartbeat"
  3. "Sartori In Tangier"
  4. "Waiting Man"
  5. "Neurotica"
  6. "Two Hands"
  7. "The Howler"
  8. "Requiem"
Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Uinta Brewing Company (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Website: http://www.uintabrewing.com/
  • Brew: Flamingose Pineapple Gose
  • Style: Gose
  • Serving: 12 ounce bottle
  • ABV: 4.0%
  • Ingredients:  Wheat beer brewed with pineapple, salt, and coriander
  • Pour: Very cloudy golden honey with a thin, bright white head that leave a small ring and trace lacing.
  • Nose: The nose of the Flamingose is sweet, fruity, bready, and just slightly salty.  There are aromas of fresh pineapple juice, mango, and lemon zest with freshly baked sourdough bread and a hint of sea salt.
  • Taste:  Like the nose, the taste of the Flamingose is wonderful blend of fruity, sweet, tart, and salty.  There are notes of pineapple syrup, lemon juice, tonic, cracked wheat, and salt.
  • Mouthfeel: Light to medium-bodied and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel is very crisp, salty, and refreshing with a tart, salty finish.
  • Notes: Taken from Uinta's description: "Inspired by 16th century brewers in Goslar, Germany, this salted wheat beer (with a tropical twist) is snappy and tart with a remarkably refreshing finish... and just the right amount of pineapple."
Overall pairing: The tart, salty, crisp, and beautifully strange and refreshing flavors of the Flamingose Pineapple Gose from the fine folks at Uinta Brewing Company is a wonderful bedfellow for the inventive, artistic, and sometimes chaotic precision that is King Crimson's "Beat".

Cheers!!
