November 17th, 2017 - By The Hands Of The Seven Devils

Time to get a little evil my metal and craft beer friends!  Your drinking buddy the Meista here getting heavy with a pairing of Satan's Host's infernal "By The Hands Of The Devil" and a delicious Seven Devils IPA from Desert Edge Brewery!  Oh hell yeah!!

Album Info:

  • Musical style: Power metal with elements of black metal, doom metal, and thrash metal
  • Sound: Incredibly heavy, the sound on "By The Hands Of The Devil" is everything a metal album should be!  It is aggressive, powerful, bombastic, evil, and fiery!  I cannot say enough about how bad-ass this band is... Conklin's vocals soar (as always) as well as growl and bite, Patrick Evil's guitar work is mind-blowing, Margar's bass is Ash's "boom stick" incarnate, and the Evil Hobbit's drumming is both machine gun fire intensity and a thunderous juggernaut!   And if you get a chance to see this band live, DO SO!!  You will not be sorry!   I highly recommend this wonderful and underrated band!!
  • Major themes: Evil, darkness, the occult, Satan, damnation, death, destruction, rebellion, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "By The Hands Of The Devil"

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Desert Edge Brewery (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Website: http://desertedgebrewery.com/
  • Brew: Seven Devils IPA
  • Style: American India Pale Ale (IPA)
  • Serving: 64 ounce growler
  • ABV: 4.0%
  • IBUs: 55
  • Ingredients: Pale, Vienna, Crystal 45, and Crystal 120 malts, Chinook, Mosaic, and Idaho 7 hops
  • Pour: It pours a very cloud golden-amber with thin, yet sustained white, bubbly head that dissipates to a thin ring with soapy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose of the Seven Devils is very citrusy, earthy, and biscuity.  There are aromas of grapefruit rind, lime peel, tangerine, dank grass, pine resin, cedar, crackery grains, and a hint of caramel.
  • Taste: The taste is big citrusy, earthy, grassy, and dank.  There are big notes of grapefruit juice and rind, tangerine, bitter herbs, minerals, bold pine, black tea, crackery biscuit, and a hint of honey.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel of the Seven Devils is very crisp, and slightly astringent with a clean, dry finish.
Overall pairing: The wonderfully flavorful and punchy Seven Devils IPA from Master Chad at Desert Edge is the perfect brew for the depth and heaviness that is Satan's Host's "By The Hands Of The Devil"!   Those bitter, biting hops are perfect for the aggression, anger, and pure evilness of each track, while those fruitier notes and aromas go great with the amazing vocal acrobatics of Conklin!

Cheers!!  Hails!!
