September 9th, 2019 - The Poison Fumes Of A Soulless Flesh Machine

Good evening evil-doers!  Your drinking buddy the Meista here tonight with a pairing of a band from my home town: Davidian and their long-play EP "Soulless Flesh Machine" and a delicious Poison Fumes from TRVE Brewing Company, "Denver's true heavy metal brewery" in collaboration with Hoof Hearted Brewing!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Davidian
  • Title: "Soulless Flesh Machine"
  • Recorded: 2016 through 2017
  • Release date: July 8th, 2017 (3rd studio album by Davidian)
  • Record company: Davidian Noise
  • Production: Curtis Morell and Davidian
  • Album cover art: the legendary Ed Repka
  • Personnel: Dan Coxey (guitars), Shawn Kapinos (lead and backing vocals), Shawn "Spike" Langford (drums), Jay Legarra (guitars), and Kip Pearce (bass)
  • Musical style: thrash metal, death metal
  • Sound: With influence from classic thrash and death metal bands like Machine Head, Pantera, Death, Slayer, and Overkill, Davidian lays down some wonderfully aggressive riffs and hooks along with a driving, thunderous rhythm, and brutally savage vocals!  The tight dual guitar work of Coxey and Legarra is reminiscent of early Hanneman and King, yet original and fresh.  Pearce and Spike flawlessly go from slow and doomy to furiously fast and powerful.  And Kapinos does a great job of channeling classic death metal vocalists like Vincent and Schuldiner.
  • Major themes: Death, destruction, violence, suffering, pain, evil, darkness, deception, etc.
  • Notes: If the cover art for "Soulless Flesh Machine" looks familiar, it should.  Artist Ed Repka is the guy that did all those killer early Death albums ("Scream Bloody Gore", "Leprosy", "Spiritual Healing") as well as Megadeth's "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?" and "Rust In Peace", Massacre's "From Beyond", "El Rostro de la Muerte" by Hirax, and "Eternal Nightmare" by Vio-lence!
  • Tracks:
  1. "Synthetic"
  2. "Spinesaw"
  3. "Despiritualies"
  4. "System Condemned"
  5. "Cemeteries In The Sand"

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: TRVE Brewing Company (Denver, Colorado) and Hoof Hearted Brewing (Marengo, Ohio)
  • Website:
  • Brew: Poison Fumes
  • Style: American Wild / Barrel Fermented Strong Lager
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.9%
  • Pour: The Poison Fumes pours a very hazy, light golden-orange hue with a bold, frothy 2+ finger head with good retention and lots of sticky, soapy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is fruity, tangy, funky, floral, and a little woody.  There are aromas of sweet and earthy organic honey, dried apricot, Brett, lemon zest, lavender, wet leather, light crackery grain, light citrusy hops, hints of stinky cheese, and a hint of booze.
  • Taste: The taste of the Poison Fumes follows the nose with lots of fruity, funky, tangy, and earthy flavors.  There are notes of bright, earthy honey, dried apricot, Brett, lemon, light booze, and light Pils malt.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium in body and well carbonated, the mouthfeel is crisp, frothy, and tangy, yet very smooth with a clean, dry finish with a bit of kick.

Overall pairing: The Poison Fumes is another funky, unique, and bold brew from the fine folks at TRVE Brewing and makes for a great pairing with the old school thrashing aggressive and honesty of the mighty Davidian!!  'Nuff said!

Cheers and hails!
