October 26th, 2020 - Avé Great Deceiver

Good evening hellions, headbangers, and craft brew lovers!  The Meista here getting aggressive with a pairing of "Avé," the debut album by Venom Inc. and a bold and tasty Great Deceiver Imperial Pilsner from Wasatch Brewing!  Hell yeah!!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Venom Inc.
  • Title: "Avé"
  • Recorded: 2017 at ZFT Studios in Portugal
  • Release date: August 11th, 2017 (1st full-length studio release by Venom, Inc.)
  • Record company: Nuclear Blast
  • Production: Mantas (aka Jeff Dunn)
  • Album cover art: Milos Duskic (painting), Tony Dolan (aka The Demolition Man) (artwork and layout), and Marcelo Vasco (artwork and layout)
  • Personnel: Mantas (guitars and drum programming) and The Demolition Man (bass and vocals)
  • Musical style: Heavy metal, thrash metal
  • Sound: Steeped in the early sound of Venom, the sound on "Avé" is a heavy, aggressive, and furious sonic attack!  The rhythms are foot-stomping and fist shaking fun, while the riffing is catchy, fiery, and full of piss and vinegar!
  • Major themes: War, violence, evil, darkness, death, Satan, anti-religion, lust, heavy metal, etc.
  • Notes: Although Abaddon (aka Tony Bray) is credited as the drummer on the "Avé" liner notes, apparently all the drumming on the tracks was actually programmed by Mantas.  However, Abaddon did play drums on the demo for "Dein Fleisch" that was released as single.
  • Tracks:
  1. "Avé Satanas"
  2. "Forged In Hell"
  3. "Metal We Bleed"
  4. "Dein Fleisch"
  5. "Blood Stained"
  6. "Time To Die"
  7. "The Evil Dead"
  8. "Preacher Man"
  9. "War"
  10. "I Kneel To No God"
  11. "Black N' Roll"

 Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Wasatch Brewing (Park City, Utah)
  • Website: https://wasatchbeers.com/
  • Brew: Great Deceiver Imperial Pilsner
  • Style: Imperial Pilsner
  • Serving: 12 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.0%
  • IBUs: 35
  • Ingredients: Noble German hops
  • Pour: The Great Deceiver pours a clear, bright golden yellow with a bright white, 1-finger head with good retention and sticky, soapy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is floral, bready, malty, sweet, and spicy. There are aromas of wild flowers, sweet biscuit, corn, light banana, clove, and summer grass.
  • Taste: Like the nose, the taste of the Great Deceiver is malty, and spicy.  There are notes of crackery and sweet biscuit, cereal grains, sweet malt, cloves, white pepper, grassy hops, caramel, and a hint of booze and light bitterness.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and well carbonated, the mouthfeel is crisp, smooth, and spicy with a dry, spicy, yet clean finish.

Overall pairing: The bold, complex, yet very crushable bready, crisp, and spicy flavors of Wasatch's Great Deceiver Imperial Pilsner go great with the face-melting metal onslaught that is Venom Inc.'s killer "Avé"!  Those spicy, sweet, and floral notes are perfect for the fiery fast guitars of Mantas and the malty backbone is perfect for The Demolition Man's heavy-duty thunderous bass!  'Nuff said!

HAILS!!
