February 27th, 2021 - Drivin' My El Dorado To Helldorado!

Hey there rivet-heads and craft beer freaks!  Your dinking pal The Meista here today with a pairing of W.A.S.P.'s "The Sting" and "Helldorado" 2 CD Set and an ORB Hazy Variant #2: El Dorado from Ogden River Brewing Company!   Hell yeah!  Full disclosure: This was a limited beer release as part of a series.  You can see by the date on the label that I picked it up on the 10th of February.  I actually did the pairing that day, but forgot to post it here until now.  Oops!  Haha!

Album Info:
  • Artist: W.A.S.P.
  • Title: "The Sting: Live at the Key Club L.A." and "Helldorado" 2 CD Set
  • Recorded: and April 22nd, 2000 live at the Key Club in Los Angeles, California
  • Release date: "Helldorado" - May 18th, 1999 (8th album by W.A.S.P.) and "The Sting: Live at the Key Club L.A." - 2000 (4th live album released by W.A.S.P.)
  • Record company: CMC International and Apocalypse / Snapper Records
  • Production: Blackie Lawless

  • Musical style: Heavy metal, shock rock, glam metal
  • Sound: This is pure, straightforward, uncomplicated L.A. metal with no apology and an unquenched hunger for sex and booze!  Blackie and the boys' album is a no-holds-barred juggernaut of an album!  These two albums are pure adrenaline and testosterone.  Songs like title track "Helldorado", "Damnation Angels", "High On Flames", and "Can't Die Tonight" blast you with power, aggression, and bold flavour and the live cuts on "The Sting" are fantastic although the sound is a little rough.  Holmes' guitar is as fiery and masterful as always!
  • Major themes: Desire, lust, sex, excessive drinking, drugs, partying, rebellion, greed, violence, revenge, etc.

    Brew Info:
    • Brewery: Ogden River Brewing (Ogden, Utah)
    • Website: https://ogdenriverbrewing.com/
    • Brew: ORB Hazy Variant #2: El Dorado
    • Style: New England India Pale Ale (NEIPA)
    • Serving: 32 ounce crowler can
    • ABV: 5.0%
    • Ingredients: El Dorado hops
    • Pour: The ORB Hazy Variant #2: El Dorado pours a very cloudy pale golden yellow hue with a frothy, bright white, half-finger head with good retention and soapy lacing.
    • Nose: The nose is a nice blend of fruity and floral hops along with lighter malts.  There are aromas of ripe orange, tangerine, apricot, pineapple, mango, pear, watermelon, cantaloupe, pine resin, light sage, wild flowers, sweet biscuit, and sweet caramel/toffee.
    • Taste: The taste of the ORB Hazy Variant #2: El Dorado follows the nose with lots of fruity, floral, and sweet flavors.  There are notes of pineapple, mango, orange juice (my wife thought it tasted like rancid orange juice), dried apricot, pine, minerals, and soft caramel.
    • Mouthfeel: Medium in body with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is very crisp, very juicy, and sharp with a dry, slightly bitter finish.

Overall pairing: The ORB Hazy Variant #2: El Dorado is a bright, sharp,  punchy IPA in the New England style, the perfect brew to rock out with on a snowy afternoon with the fast-paced sonic metal blast of W.A.S.P.'s "The Sting: Live at the Key Club L.A." and "Helldorado" 2 CD Set!  'Nuff said!

    Cheers!!  Hails!!
