Hey there metal maniacs and craft beer lovers!  The Meista here on this cold, but sunny Sunday pairing the newly released Heavy Metal Parking Lot American Black Lager from the fine folks at SaltFire Brewing and the double live album "Priest...Live!" from the metal gods themselves, Judas Priest!!  Hell yeah!!  This pairing is dedicated to my main metal man Kevin Kirk, owner of the famous (and sometimes infamous) Heavy Metal Shop!!  MOST love brother!!

  • Website: https://www.saltfirebrewing.com/
  • Brew: Heavy Metal Parking Lot American Black Lager
  • Style: American Black Lager / Schwarz bier
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 6.66%
  • Ingredients: 2 Row malt, Dextrin malt, Debittered roasted malt, and Magnum hops
  • Pour: The Heavy Metal Parking Lot pours an opaque, ink black hue with a thin, very light mocha head that dissipates very quickly leaving virtually no lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is characterized by lightly malty, lightly hoppy, earthy , and slightly sweet aromas.  There are notes of cola, crackery biscuit, caramel, and light roasted coffee beans.
  • Taste: The taste of the Heavy Metal Parking Lot is malty, hoppy, earthy, and slightly bitter and slightly sweet.  There are notes of roasted malts, crackery grains, cola, sweet biscuit, soft caramel/toffee, light herbs, and very light coffee.
  • Mouthfeel: Light to medium-bodied and moderately carbonated, the mouthfeel is very crisp and smooth with a dry, slightly sweet, yet very clean finish.

Overall pairing: SaltFire's Heavy Metal Parking Lot American Black Lager (a tribute to my buddy Kevin's the Heavy Metal Shop in Salt Lake City) is a very crushable and tasty brew, perfect for Judas Priest's amazing "Priest... Live!" and not just for the name sake either.  (The beer is named for a documentary film about metal heads at a Judas Priest concert in Maryland in 1986 during the Fuel for Life Tour.)  Those wonderfully balanced slightly bitter hop and sweeter malt notes make for the perfect companion to Priest's kick-ass live presentation!  'Nuff said!

Cheers... raise those horns... and glasses to the Metal Gods and the Heavy Metal Shop!!!
