December 20th, 2021 - Existence Is Futile So We Might As Well Get Sauced!

Hey there evil doers and artisan brew freaks!  The Meista here today pairing "Existence Is Futile", the latest album by the legendary Cradle Of Filth and a very unique, tart, and spicy Sauced! from Bewilder Brewing Company!  Hell yeah!

Album Info:

  • Artist: Cradle Of Filth
  • Title: "Existence Is Futile"
  • Recorded: February through October 2020 at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk, England
  • Release date: October 22nd, 2021 (13th studio album by Cradle Of Filth)
  • Record company: Nuclear Blast
  • Production: Scott Atkins
  • Album cover art: Arthur Berzinsh

  • Additional musicians: Doug Bradley (narration on "Suffer Our Dominion", and "Sisters of the Mist")
  • Musical style: Symphonic black metal, extreme gothic metal
  • Sound: As with all COF albums, "Existence Is Futile" is bombastic, complex, dark, and richly textured.  It may actually be my favorite to date from the band.  Of the album, Dani Filth described it as: "Fast and slow parts (and faster still), new delectable flavours and those reminiscent of earlier COF albums galore, massive choruses and melancholic drop-downs, old skool melodic NWOBM amid furious, scathing black metal amid apocalyptic groove. But I would say it's not very different from 'Cryptoriana'. It's not as intricately laced. That album spoke of the times it was trying to assimilate and represent. This album is about existential terror. The threat of everything. The end of the world, the end of one's life, existential dread. A little hope, I guess in there. It's a CRADLE OF FILTH record. The songs are strong. They're extreme, but it's a mixture of everything."
  • Major themes: Occultism, paganism, death, mythology, dark romance, horror, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "The Fate Of The World On Our Shoulders"
  2. "Existential Terror"
  3. "Necromantic Fantasies"
  4. "Crawling King Chaos"
  5. "Here Comes A Candle... (Infernal Lullaby)"
  6. "Black Smoke Curling From The Lips Of War"
  7. "Discourse Between A Man And His Soul"
  8. "The Dying Of The Embers"
  9. "Ashen Mortality"
  10. "How Many Tears To Nurture A Rose?"
  11. "Suffer Our Dominion"
  12. "Us, Dark, Invincible"

  • Website: https://bewilderbrewing.com/
  • Brew: Sauced!
  • Style: Fruited Sour Ale
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • IBUs: 10
  • Ingredients: Idaho Gem hops with cranberries, cinnamon, and orange peel
  • Pour: The Sauced! pours a hazy and pinkish, peach hue with a frothy, bright white, 1-finger head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving a thin ring.
  • Nose: The nose is fruity, tart, and spicy.  There are aromas of fresh cranberry, lemon juice, lemon zest, orange peel, and spicy cinnamon.
  • Taste: The taste of the Sauced! follows the nose with tart, spicy, and fruity flavors.  There are notes of tart cranberry juice, lemon juice, a hint of tart cherry juice, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, and light grains.
  • Mouthfeel: Light-bodied and well carbonated, the mouthfeel is very crisp, tart, and refreshing with a dry, spicy finish.

Overall pairing: The Bewilder Sauced! is a unique blend of tart, juicy, and spicy flavors... a great beer to pair as a foil to the dark complexity Cradle Of Filth's crowning achievement entitled "Existence Is Futile""!  Those sharp, tart flavors go great with Dani's infernal vocals, while the spicy cinnamon works well with the soaring guitars and orchestral elements.  'Nuff said!

Cheers and hails!!
