June 10th, 2022 - I'm Dead Again, So I'm Going To Do Less

Hello and happy Friday evil-doers!  Your metal drinkin' buddy the Meista here today pairing a tasty and crushable Do Less West Coast India Pale Ale from Proper Brewing Company and Type O Negative's wonderful final album "Dead Again"!  Oh yeah!  This pairing goes out to my stepson... he turns the big 21 today!  Cheers buddy!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Type O Negative
  • Title: "Dead Again"
  • Recorded: Late 2006 and early 2007 at Systems Two in Brooklyn, New York, Sty In The Sky in Brooklyn, New York, and Paul Bento's Studio in Brooklyn, New York
  • Release date: March 13th, 2007 (7th and sadly, final studio album by Type O Negative)
  • Record company: Steamhammer
  • Production: Josh Silver and Peter Steele
  • Album cover art: Peter Steele (art direction and design)
  • Personnel: Kenny Hickey (guitars and backing vocals), Johnny Kelly (drums and backing vocals), Josh Silver (keyboards and backing vocals), and Peter Steele (lead vocals, bass, additional guitars, and keyboards)
  • Guest musicians: Paul Bento (sitar and tambura), Bensonhoist Lesbian Choir (choir vocals), and Tara Vanflower (vocals on "Halloween In Heaven")
  • Musical style: Gothic metal/rock, doom metal
  • Sound: Blending elements of doom metal and classic metal with gothic rock and post punk, the sound on "Dead Again" is pure Type O Negative!  There are huge sludgy riffs and powerful melodies coupled with Bauhaus era Peter Murphy-esque vocals.
  • Major themes: Death, darkness, dismay, misery, a tribute to Dimebag Darrell, romance, depression, etc.
  • Notes: Sadly, this would be Type O Negative's final album, as Steele died on April 14th, 2010 of diverticulitis. Of his passing and the band's demise, bandmate Kelly stated: "Even if there is somebody who could take his place it wouldn't matter. We don't have any interest in continuing. It's impossible – it hasn't even come up in any kind of discussion. When Peter died, Type O Negative died with him."
  • Tracks:
  1. "Dead Again"
  2. "Tripping A Blind Man"
  3. "The Profit Of Doom"
  4. "September Sun"
  5. "Halloween In Heaven"
  6. "These Three Things"

  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Do Less is crisp and juicy with a dry and slightly bitter finish.

Overall pairing: The Proper Do Less is a crushable, yet punchy and very tasty brew... perfect for the metal depth, complexity, and honesty that is Type O Negative's amazing "Dead Again"!  'Nuff said!

Raise your horns and glasses!!  Cheers rockers!!
