August 10th, 2022 - Emerson, Lake [Beer] & Palmer

Hello!  The Meista here with another great pairing for ya!  This evening I'm pairing Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's wonderful debut album with a crisp and easy drinking Lake Beer Pilsner from Lumberbeard Brewing!

Album Info:

  • Artist: Emerson, Lake, And Palmer (ELP)
  • Title: "Emerson, Lake & Palmer"
  • Recorded: 1970 at Advision Studios in London, England
  • Release date: January 1st, 1971 (debut album by ELP)
  • Record company: Island, Atlantic, Manticore
  • Production: Greg Lake
  • Album cover art: Nic Dartnell
  • Personnel: Keith Emerson (Hammond organ, piano, clavinet, pipe organ, and Moog modular synthesizer), Greg Lake (vocals, bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitars), and Carl Palmer (drums and percussion)
  • Musical style: Progressive rock, hard rock with elements of classical, folk, and jazz
  • Sound: Deep, brooding, powerful, the sound on "Emerson, Lake & Palmer" is wholly original.  The guitar work, lyrics, vocals, and drumming are emotive and powerful, and Emerson's keyboards/electronics are nothing short of genius!
  • Major themes: Fate, life and death, love and hate, mythology, etc.
  • Notes: Interestingly enough, the "Emerson, Lake & Palmer" album was intended not as an effort by a unified band, but as a general collaborative recording session of three distinct musicians.
  • Tracks:
  1. "The Barbarian"
  2. "Take A Pebble"
  3. "Knife-Edge"
  4. "The Three Fates"
    • Clotho
    • Lachesis
    • Atropos
  5. "Tank"
  6. "Lucky Man"

Brew Info:

  • Brewery: Lumberbeard Brewing (Spokane, Washington)
  • Website: https://lumberbeardbrewing.com/
  • Brew: Lake Beer Pilsner
  • Style: Pilsner
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • Pour: The Lake Beer pours a clear, bright yellow hue with a frothy, bright white, 1-finger head with good retention and sticky, layered lacing.
  • Nose: The nose of the Lake Beer is grainy, grassy, and malty.  There are aromas of freshly cut hay, crackery biscuit, summer grass, a hint of apple, light lemon zest, and light honey.
  • Taste: Like the nose, the taste is a crackery, biscuity, grassy, and slightly sweet.  There are notes of crackery malts, crisp apple, grassy hops, light lemon, and a hint of honey.
  • Mouthfeel: Light-bodied and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel of the Lake Beer is very crisp and very smooth with a dry, clean finish.

Overall pairing: The crisp, crackery, and grassy flavors of Lake Beer coupled with the brilliance of ELP is the perfect way to pay homage and immerse yourself in the wonderfully rich depth that was the musical complexity and genius of this band on their debut album!  'Nuff said!

Cheers!
