Brew Info:

  • Brewery: UTOG Brewing Company (Ogden, Utah)
  • Brew: Plug Ugly American Ale
  • Style: Light Ale
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • Ingredients: Magnum hops
  • Pour: The Plug Ugly pours a clear, bright golden-yellow hue with a frothy, stark white 1-finger head that dissipates to a thin ring with sparse lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is a mellow blend of grainy, malty, and slightly sweet aromas.  There are notes of freshly baked wheat bread, light barley, light creamed corn, and subtle caramel/toffee.
  • Taste: The taste of the Plug Ugly follows the nose and is characterized by light grainy, floral, and slightly sweet malty flavors.  There are notes of cracked wheat, light cornmeal, and light caramel/toffee in the finish.
  • Mouthfeel: Refreshing, drinkable, light-bodied, and well-carbonated with very low bitterness, the mouthfeel of the Plug Ugly is very crisp, effervescent, yet incredibly smooth with a clean finish.
  • Note: "Plug Ugly tips its helmet to days when firefighters had to literally fight to put out fires. During the incipient stage of The Fire Service, only the first company to put water on the fire was paid.  It's for this reason that the water supply, or "plug", had to be protected at all costs. The biggest, meanest firefighter was tasked with making sure that no other company got the chance and, thus, the "plug-ugly" was born. In spirit of the plug ugly, the L552 Ogden Firefighter Union fights for charities by donating a portion of proceeds from this beer!"

Overall pairing: The easy drinking and crushable nature of UTOG's tasty Plug Ugly acts as a great foil to the beautifully dark and powerful metal attack of the legendary King Diamond!  'Nuff said!

Cheers!!  Hails!!
