September 24th, 2022 - Into Blackness With A Cherny Bock

All right ya crazy thrashers.. your metal drinking buddy the Meista here with another kick-ass pairing for ya!  How's 'bout some killer German thrash in the form of "Into Darkness" by Bonded along with a tasty and very crushable Cherny Bock from Bohemian Brewery?  Sounds about right to me!!

Album Info:

  • Artist: Bonded
  • Title: "Into Darkness"
  • Recorded: 2021 at Rambado Recording Studio in Essen, Germany
Release date: November 12th, 2021 (2nd studio album by Bonded)
  • Record company: Century Media Records
  • Production: Cornelius Rambadt
  • Album cover art: Björn Gooßes
  • Personnel:  Ingo Bajonczak (vocals), Bernemann (guitars), Markus Freiwald (drums), Marc Hauschild (bass), and Chris Tsitsis (guitars)
  • Musical style: Thrash metal
  • Sound: With two former members of Sodom, Bonded's sound definitely delivers that classic German thrash intensity, yet with a more modern feel.  It is fiery, fierce, and a hell of a good time!
  • Major themes: Violence, death, evil, darkness, war, arson, insanity, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "The Arsonist"
  2. "Watch (While The World Burns)"
  3. "Lilith (Queen Of Blood)"
  4. "The Holy Whore"
  5. "Division Of The Damned"
  6. "Into The Blackness Of A Wartime Night"
  7. "Destroy The Things I Love"
  8. "Final Stand"
  9. "Ill-Minded Freak"
  10. "Way Of The Knife"
  11. "The Eyes Of Madness"

Brew Info:

  • Brewery: Bohemian Brewery (Midvale, Utah)
  • Website: http://www.bohemianbrewery.com/
  • Brew: Cherny Bock
  • Style: German Schwarzbier
  • Serving: 12 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • Pour: The Cherny Bock pours an almost ink black hue with a 1-finger, creamy mocha head with good retention and lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is toasty, roasty, nutty, and earthy.  There are aromas of hazelnut, roasted malts, toasted bread, and a hint of soft caramel.
  • Taste: The taste is like the nose... toasty, roasty, and malty with very low bitterness.  There are notes of toasted bread, roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate and coffee, and light caramel.
  • Mouthfeel: Light to medium-bodied and moderately carbonated, the mouthfeel is very smooth and crisp with a dry, clean, mellow finish.

Overall pairing: The straightforward, very sessionable, very crushable, and very dark flavors of Bohemian's tasty and easy-drinkin' Cherny bock is perfect for the thrash metal onslaught that is Bonded!  'Nuff said!

And if you haven't done so already, check out my interview with Bonded bassist Christian "Speesy" Giesler: https://youtu.be/ISPnVUbolD8.  (He joined the band after "Into Blackness" was released.)

Prost metal maniacs!!
