Hello headbangers and craft beer freaks... and happy Saturday to you!  The Meista here today starting with a pairing of Ludichrist's kick-ass sophomore album "Powertrip" and a tasty Color Country Red Ale from Silver Reef Brewing Company!  Hell yeah!!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Ludichrist
  • Title: "Powertrip"
  • Recorded: 1988 at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida
  • Release date: 1988 (2nd full-length album by Ludichrist)

  • Musical style: Thrash metal, crossover with elements of hardcore punk, rock, and even a little jazz
  • Sound: High-energy, fast-paced, and wonderfully aggressive, Ludichrist's "Powertrip" is the band's crowning achievement.  Where their first album was more a hardcore album, "Powertrip" is truly a crossover album with a vibe similar to Excel or Crumbsuckers.
  • Major themes: Blending humor with critical seriousness, lyrics on the album examine life, death, partying, rebellion, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "Powertrip"
  2. "Zad"
  3. "Stuff To Fill Graves"
  4. "The Tip Of My Mind"
  5. "Damage Done"
  6. "T.B.O.S. (Barbiere di Siviglia)"
  7. "This Party Sucks"
  8. "Johnnypump"
  9. "Yesterday For You"
  10. "And So It Goes"
  11. "The Well Dressed Man In Disguise"

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Brewing Company (Saint George, Utah)

  • Style: Amber Ale / Session Style Belgian Abbey Ale
  • Serving: 12 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • IBUs: 23
  • Pour: The Color Country pours a fairly clear deep copper-amber with a frothy, billowing, 2-finger, light beige head with great retention and lots of soapy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is fruity, herbal, slightly spicy, and malty.  There are aromas of dark fruits (raisin, black cherry, and plums), Belgian yeast, light herbs, a hint of banana, soft caramel, and crackery biscuit.
  • Taste: The taste of the Color Country follows the nose with lots of fruity, spicy, crackery grain, and light herbal flavors.  There are notes of plum, raisin, soft banana, bready malts, spicy herbs, lemon tea, and soft toffee.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is very crisp, smooth, and slightly spicy with a dry, clean finish.

Overall pairing: The Color Country is a very flavorful, punchy, and crushable brew that is perfect for throwing back whilst pumping your fists and wrecking your neck to the thrash/crossover onslaught that is Ludichrist!!  'Nuff said!

Cheers and hails!!
