March 19th, 2024 - A Time Of Metamorphosis

Hey there rockers and craft brew lovers!  The Meista here with another killer pairing for you!  Today, on the first day of spring, I'm banging my head to New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) godfathers Blitzkrieg and their debut album "A Time Of Changeswith a delicious Metamorphosis Hazy IPA from Mother Earth Brewing Company!  Hell yeah!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Blitzkrieg
  • Title: "A Time Of Changes"
  • Recorded: 1985 at Impulse 24 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England
  • Release date: 1985 (1st full-length studio album by Blitzkrieg)
  • Record company: Neat Records
  • Production: Martin Smith and Brian Ross
  • Album cover art: Bill Colwell
  • Personnel: Mike Moore (bass), Mick Procter (guitars), Brian Ross (vocals), Jim Sirotto (guitars), and Sean Taylor (drums)
  • Additional musicians: Ian Boddy (keyboards on "Ragnarok / Inferno" and "Vikings"), Martin Smith (wind synthesizer on "A Time Of Changes"), Ian Swift (backing vocals on "Pull The Trigger"), and Russ Tippins (guitar on "Pull The Trigger")
  • Musical style: Heavy metal, NWOBHM, speed metal
  • Sound: Probably one of the most important NWOBHM albums recorded in my humble opinion, "A Time Of Changes" delivers!  It has everything I love about that early '80s British heavy metal sound: fast and fiery riffs, machine gun fire drumming, soaring vocals, and dark lyrics!  And the song "Blitzkrieg" has to be one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever!
  • Major themes: Destruction, death, war, the end of the world, violence, revenge, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "Ragnarök / Inferno"
  2. "Blitzkrieg"
  3. "Pull The Trigger" (Satan cover)
  4. "Armageddon"
  5. "Hell To Pay"
  6. "Vikings"
  7. "A Time Of Changes"
  8. "Saviour"

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Mother Earth Brew Company (Vista, California)
  • Website: http://motherearthbrewco.com/
  • Brew: Metamorphosis Hazy IPA
  • Style: India Pale Ale (IPA)
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.2%
  • IBUs: 50
  • Ingredients: Strata, Citra, and Mosaic hops with wheat and dextrin malts
  • Pour: The Metamorphosis Hazy IPA pours a hazy, bright golden orange/yellow hue with a frothy and creamy, half-finger, off-white head with great retention and delicate lacing.
  • Nose: Fruit forward, the nose is tropical, citrusy, floral, dank, and malty.  It is chalk full of notes of grapefruit rind, tangerine, orange zest, stone fruit (peach and apricot), pineapple, mango, marijuana leaf, pine resin, wildflowers, soft caramel malt, and a hint of booze.
  • Taste: The taste of the Metamorphosis Hazy IPA follows the nose with floral and dank hops, citrus, tropical fruit, and sweet malt flavors.  There are big notes of grapefruit juice, orange juice and zest, tangerine, pineapple, mango, peach, apricot, strawberry, pine, and a little booze with a strong malty backbone.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Metamorphosis Hazy IPA is crisp and juicy, with a soft, creamy, and smooth finish.

Overall pairing: Along with the beer name and album title, along with the imagery, the Mother Earth Metamorphosis Hazy IPA is a deliciously juicy, dank, yet fruity brew, which makes it a great companion to the kickass riffs of Blitzkrieg's classic "A Time Of Changes"!  The name of the beer and the album title also seemed fitting for the first day of spring.  'Nuff said!

Cheers and hails!!
