April 6th, 2024 - Oh, My Heart... Look What You Made Me Brew!

Hello and happy Saturday my friends!  The Meista here today rocking out with Heart's classic, self-titled 8th studio album and a tasty Pink Boots collaboration, the Look What You Made Me Brew Belgian Blonde Ale from the fine folks at Ogden Brewing Company!  So apparently the name of the beer is taken from a Taylor Swift song, but (big but) I'm not pairing a Taylor Swift album on my page!  No offense to the Pink Boots ladies.  You get some rockin' Heart instead.  :)

Album Info:

  • Artist: Heart
  • Title: "Heart"
  • Recorded: January through April 1985 at The Record Plant in Los Angeles, California and The Plant in Sausalito, California
Release date: June 21st, 1985 (8th studio album by Heart)
  • Record company: Capitol Records
  • Production: Ron Nevison
  • Album cover art: Rebecca Blake (photography) and Norman Moore (art direction and design)
  • Personnel: Mark Andes (bass guitar), Denny Carmassi (drums), Howard Leese (lead guitar, keyboards, mandolin, and backing vocals), Ann Wilson (lead vocals), and Nancy Wilson (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolins, and vocals)
  • Additional musicians: Johnny Colla (backing vocals), Holly Knight (keyboards), Grace Slick (backing vocals), Frankie Sullivan (additional guitars), Mickey Thomas (backing vocals), Lynn Wilson (backing vocals), and Peter Wolf (synthesizer and acoustic piano)
  • Musical style: Hard rock, rock and roll, pop rock, glam metal
  • Sound: Continuing a more commercial, mainstream rock sound, with their 1985 self-titled album, Heart saw their biggest success.  Along with a glossier, more glam look, the band's sound displayed bigger production, more fiery riffs and solos, and huge vocal harmonies, which I adore!
  • Major themes: Love, lust, desire, honesty, heartbreak, rock and roll, life, deception, revenge, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "If Looks Could Kill"
  2. "What About Love"
  3. "Never"
  4. "These Dreams"
  5. "The Wolf"
  6. "All Eyes"
  7. "Nobody Home"
  8. "Nothin' At All"
  9. "What He Don't Know"
  10. "Shell Shock"

  • Brew: Look What You Made Me Brew
  • Style: Belgian Blonde Ale
  • Serving: 12 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • Pour: The Look What You Made Me Brew pours a clear, golden-yellow hue with a thin, bright white head that dissipates to a thin ring with light lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is a characterized by grainy, fruity, slightly spicy, and malty aromas.  There are aromas of cracked wheat, light cereal grains, lemon zest, apple or pear, soft banana, clove, nutmeg, and a hint of honey.
  • Taste: Very well-balanced, the Look What You Made Me Brew has a nice blend of grainy, fruity, spicy, and malty flavors.  There are notes of crackery biscuit, doughy bread, pear juice, soft banana, lemon zest, light hops, light clove, and a hint of honey.
  • Mouthfeel: Light to medium in body and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel is very smooth with a crisp and refreshing profile.  The finish is dry, slightly spicy, and clean.

Overall pairing: The straightforward, punchy, yet very drinkable Look What You Made Me Brew is a perfect beer to pair with the rock and roll passion, depth, and talent of the Wilson sisters and friends... especially when blasting their hit tracks from the indelible "Heart" album!

Cheers!!  Rock on!!
