May 18th, 2013 - Soundtrack Of Violent Malts

Alright you crazy rockers... let's get some heavy, bluesy, kick-ass rock 'n' roll going!!  The Meista here with another pairing for you tonight and this goes out to my new pal Amy DeLong!  Amy turned me on to this great band.  Cheers Amy!!  I'm pairing American Hitmen's album "Soundtrack Of Violence" with a Gordon Biersch Maibock Einbecker-Style Bock Beer!

Let's start with this killer band... American Hitmen formed on the battlefield in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004... literally!  Dan and Tim Cord, Ben Porterfield, and Dan “Jay” Jarmon were all Marines fighting together.  When they returned to the States after their tour they put their musical talent together and started rocking!  "Soundtrack Of Violence" is the band's second full-length album and it is a killer.  What I really like about this band is their straight-up rock and roll sensibility, brutally honest lyrics, and rocking song structure.  There are elements of early Aerosmith, the Cult, Cream, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Skid Row (among others) in their sound, yet it is fresh and original.  Songs like "... And Another Thing," "The Proposition" (maybe my favorite), "The Watcher," "Devil's Country," "Symmetry," "Can't Take The Fire Away," and the title track are all monster rockers!  And this is band that self-promotes, self-produces, and self-manages.... bad asses!  This IS the next album on your purchase list... trust me... really good stuff!!

A band like American Hitmen needs a beer with some backbone... thus, the Gordon Biersch Maibock, which is brewed in accordance to the German Purity Law of 1516.  This beer has some bite to it, which lends itself very well to the music of American Hitmen!  Maibocks tends to be a bit lighter in color than other Bocks, but have a significant hop character with a noticeable alcohol kick.  That can definitely be said of the Gordon Biersch Maibock, however, it is fairly dark in color.  It pours a deep copper red with a frothy half-finger head that dissipates quickly.  Full-bodied, but lightly carbonated, this tasty brew is profoundly dark-roasted, caramelized Munich malt.  Like "Soundtrack Of Violence," this beer is chunky, flavorful, and honest.  The nose is sweet, malty, and boozy.  There are notes of sweet caramel, freshly baked bread, and spiced rum.  Like the nose, the flavor is bold and complex.  There are notes of rum-soaked raisins, cinnamon bread, vanilla bean, and sticky honey... all with a nice hoppy bite.  It finishes clean with a slight lingering of sweetness.

Check out American Hitmen at www.americanhitmen.com.. you won't be sorry!

Cheers!!
