Are you ready to rock?! The Meista sure is and I'm rocking out today with "Anthology" by Rock Goddess and a big Naughty Nellie Golden Artisan Ale from the Pike Brewing Company out of Seattle, Washington.
For those of you that have been reading this blog for a while now, you can attest to the fact that I'm a sucker for the music of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) from the late 1970s and early 1980s. A bit of a cult group in the early to mid 1980s, Rock Goddess was definitely pure adrenaline NWOBHM in the vein of acts like Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Girlschool, Motorhead, and Tygers of Pan Tang. An all-female power trio, Rock Goddess was made up of Jody Turner on guitars and vocals, Julie Turner on drums and backing vocals, and Tracey Lamb (who later joined Girlschool) on bass and backing vocals on their first album and then Dee O'Malley on bass and backing vocals on the next two albums. Characterized by sexually charged lyrics, catchy hard-rockin' tunes, Jody's powerful vocals and soaring guitars, Julie's driving drum work, and Lamb's or O'Malley's thumpin' bass work, Rock Goddess' work is fast and furious hard rock! Songs like "Hell Hath No Fury," "I Didn't Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock And Roll)," "Hold Me Down," "My Angel," "In The Heat Of The Night," "Heavy Metal Rock 'N' Roll," "Gotta Let Your Hair Down," "Love Is A Bitch," "The Love Lingers Still," and "No More" are monster rockers in their own right.
Pike Naughty Nellie is an American Blonde Ale that pours a cloudy, light amber hue with a thin white head displaying sustained lacing. The nose is malty and grainy with sweet notes of caramel. Light bodied with moderate carbonation, Naughty Nellie is a well-balanced beer akin to a traditional English lager or a German Kölsch. The mouthfeel is light and crisp with moderate spiciness. Noble variety hops give the Naughty Nellie a dry palate with medium bitterness. Incredibly refreshing, this ale has a nice, malty flavor with notes of freshly baked biscuits, a little bit of white pepper in the mid range, crisp summer grass, and sweet and creamy toffee in the finish. An easy drinking ale, Naughty Nellie is a sweetheart that loves to get wild with high-octane rock and roll like Rock Goddess!!
