Hello and welcome! This silly blog is an experiment in my own vanity in terms of my opinions on craft beer and music and various pairings (much like you would do with food). I definitely want to express that I am no expert in terms of brewing or in musical composition. This is merely opinion, my opinion (sometimes clouded by consumption) with regards to enjoyable beers and music. Cheers! November 17th, 2013 - Blue Star For A Lone Star Legend...
Hello my friends! I'm gonna keep this short and sweet (like me) 'cause in all honesty... I'm a little loopy right now... and probably gonna feel this in the morning! :) Tonight I'm pairing a Blue Star Wheat Beer from North Coast Brewing Company with the ultimate Lone Star state hero, the late, great Stevie Ray Vaughn (SRV) and "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble"! Yeah buddy!!
The Blue Star pours a very hazy golden-wheat color with a half-finger head. The nose is yeasty and wheaty with big sour dough bread notes and citrus notes. Exceptionally refreshing, the mouthfeel and flavor is crisp, highly carbonated, biscuity, and layered with all sorts a wheat goodness... and a hint of butterscotch. The finish is clean and tasty... like that SRV guitar tone!
What the hell can you say about Mr. SRV that hasn't already been said? The man was a legend, a fucking god, a musician of grace, depth, and integrity. I'm still in mourning a good 23 years after his untimely death in a helicopter crash in 1990. The man was a goddamned guitar genius in the league of Hendrix, Clapton, Green, and Page. His tone alone on the song "Lenny" nearly brings me to tears every time I hear it... honestly... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgm5BPB9mrQ. Whether you are a blues fan or not, you cannot deny the profound and wonderful impact of SRV on modern music. He transcends styles, transcends eras, and transcends generations. The 37 tracks on this double album highlight the brilliance of SRV and his band Double Trouble. If you don't own this album, shame on you!
Hats off to you SRV (R.I.P.)... hats off to you B&T fans... sleep well and know the Meista loves ya!! Cheers!!
