Hello and welcome! This silly blog is an experiment in my own vanity in terms of my opinions on craft beer and music and various pairings (much like you would do with food). I definitely want to express that I am no expert in terms of brewing or in musical composition. This is merely opinion, my opinion (sometimes clouded by consumption) with regards to enjoyable beers and music. Cheers! June 27th, 2014 - Believe Me... I'm A Believer In Girlschool's "Believe"!
Good evenin' rockers and drinkers! The Meista here with another high-octane pairing for you tonight... I'm going with "Believe" by Girlschool and a Believer Double Red Ale from Ninkasi Brewing Company outta Eugene, Oregon!
Released about ten years ago on July 26th, 2004, "Believe" is the 10th studio album by hard rockin' NWOBHM band Girlschool. It is the first full album to feature lead guitarist Jackie "Jax" Chambers (Jax had played on 2 tracks from the 2002 album, "21st Anniversary: Not That Innocent" and replaced Kelly Johnson who quit the band when she was diagnosed with spinal cancer. Sadly, Johnson passed away on July 15th, 2007.) Lyrically, the album is sexual charged ("Come On Up", "Let's Get Hard", "Feel Good", "Play Around", "Passion") and musically characterized by adrenaline charged guitar, bass, and drum work! Chambers' lead guitar work is fresh, richly textured and fun as hell to hear! Denise Dufort's drummingg is (as always) solid, powerful, and tribal! Kim McAuliffe's rhythm guitar and vocal delivery is both aggressive and sexy! And Enid Williams' bass and vocal work is both thunderous and sensual! "Believe" is what great rock and roll is supposed to sound like!!
Believer Double Red Ale from Ninkasi Brewing Company is a 6.9% Imperial Red with great malty character and a smooth mouthfeel. It pours a deep dark red with a thick foamy head that displace lots of great lacing and retention. The nose is sweet and malty. There are big aromas of vanilla, caramel, molasses, a hint of cherry, and freshly baked bread. With lower carbonation and a nice heartiness, the Believer's mouthfeel is creamy, smooth, and velvety initially, but finishes dry with some crispness. The flavor is very, very malty, bready, and sweet. There are big notes of sweet and buttery toffee, toasted bread, vanilla, and piney and bitter hops in the finish. The Believer Double Red Ale is what great ale is supposed to taste like!!
Cheers and hails!!
