Hello and welcome! This silly blog is an experiment in my own vanity in terms of my opinions on craft beer and music and various pairings (much like you would do with food). I definitely want to express that I am no expert in terms of brewing or in musical composition. This is merely opinion, my opinion (sometimes clouded by consumption) with regards to enjoyable beers and music. Cheers! September 26th, 2014 - The Bitburger Lovedrive
Guten tag!! The Meista here with another rocking pairing for you... this one from our friends over in Deutschland. Tonight I'm pairing "Lovedrive" by Scorpions with a Bitburger Premium Pils from Bitburger Brauerei!
Released on February 25th, 1979, "Lovedrive" is the 6th studio album by German rockers Scorpions. It is the first album to feature Matthias Jabs on lead guitar. (Michael Schenker provided lead guitar on "Another Piece of Meat", "Coast to Coast" and "Lovedrive", but left the band before the album could be finished.) Along with Jabs, the classic lineup included Klaus Meine (lead vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, and lead guitar on "Always Somewhere"), Francis Buchholz (bass guitar and backing vocals), Herman Rarebell (drums and backing vocals). A bit of departure from previous albums, "Lovedrive" was the first Scorps album to feature what would become the band's "classic sound". Tracks like "Loving You Sunday Morning", "Another Piece Of Meat", "Coast To Coast", "Can't Get Enough", "Is There Anyone There?" with its reggae beat, the title track, and "Holiday" are characterized by their driving guitars, soaring vocals, great song structure, powerful delivery, and sexual themes! And then there's that controversial and humorous Storm Thorgerson album cover... classic!! "Lovedrive" is such a great, great album on so many levels! And speaking of great...
Bitburger Premium Pils is the classic German Pilsener and probably the most popular beer in Germany. It pours a pale straw gold with a thick and creamy white head that displays great retention. The nose is herbal, hoppy, and leafy. There are aromas of grassy hops, light malts, and some slight skunkiness/sulfur. Light bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing with a bit of creaminess as well. The taste is characterized by corn, toasted barley malt, grassy hops, biscuit, lemon, sweet caramel, and doughy bread. Very drinkable, very sessionable, crisp, and clean, the Bitburger Premium Pils goes down easy and tastes great whilst the Scrops rock out in the background!
PROST!!
