  • Sound: Reminiscent of the King's X sound, but with a little more funk/R&B and experimentation, the sound on "Pineappleskunk" is bold, heavy, and punchy.  Pinnick's vocals are as beautifully soulful as ever and his bass and guitar work is heavy-duty rock and roll while Gaskill's drumming is spot-on rhythm perfection!

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Ballast Point Brewing Company (San Diego, California)
  • Website: www.ballastpoint.com
  • Brew: Pineapple Sculpin IPA
  • Style: American India Pale Ale (IPA)
  • Serving: 12 ounce bottle
  • ABV: 7.0%
  • IBUs: 70
  • Pour: Clear, bright golden amber with a thin white head that leaves spotty lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is characterized by a big blast of pineapple juice along with citrus (lemon, grapefruit, and tangerine), pine resin, and caramel/toffee.
  • Taste: Suprisingly, the pineapple flavor is very subtle in the taste.  There are bigger notes of notes of tangerine, pine, lemon, grapefruit, and melon along with a semi-sweet Crystal malt backbone.
  • Mouthfeel: Light to medium-bodied and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel is prickly, fizzy, and hoppy with a clean, dry finish.
Overall pairing: The punchy, juicy, and biting flavors of the Pineapple Sculpin IPA from Ballast Point is a great brew to pair with Doug Pinnick's second solo outing, the rockin' Poundhound's "Pineappleskunk"!  Those bitter, but fruity notes in the Pineapple Sculpin work really well with the deep-routed rock and roll style that is Poundhound!

Cheers!!  Keep it funky and keep it craft!!
