February 12th, 2021 - Recipe For An Anticult: Knowledge, Anger, And A Little Citra For Good Measure!

 

Dobry wieczór hop freaks and headbangers!  The Meista here tonight with another great brew from the fine folks at Ogden River Brewing Company, the newly released and very limited ORB Hazy Variant #1: Citra and the kick-ass "Anticult" by Polish death metal monsters Decapitated!  Hell yeah!!

• Pour: The ORB Hazy Variant #1 pours a very hazy pale golden yellow hue with a thin, bright white head that dissipates fairly quickly and leaves only trace lacing.
• Nose: The nose is a nice blend of citrus, tropical fruit, herbs, and floral hops along with lighter malts.  There are big aromas of overripe oranges, tangerine, lemons, melon, peach, dried apricot, wild flowers, pine resin, cedar, crackery biscuit, light onion, and a hint of caramel.
• Taste: The taste of the Hazy Variant #1 follows the nose with lots of citrusy, fruity, herbal, and floral flavors.  There are notes of orange juice, orange pith, orange zest, tangerine, lemon zest, cantaloupe, light pine, light onion, fresh basil, and pale malts.
• Mouthfeel: Medium in body with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is very crisp, very juicy, and smooth with a dry, slightly sharp and bitter finish.

Overall pairing: Those bright, citrusy, fruity, herbal, and juicy flavors of the Ogden River Brewing ORB Hazy Variant #1: Citra make for a great foil to the intensity of Decapitated's "Anticult"!  The bitterness from the hops are perfect for the vocals, lyrics, and overall aggressive nature of the album! 'Nuff said!!
