  • Musical style: Punk rock, post punk, alternative rock, power pop, art rock
  • Sound: Drawing from their punk roots as well as classic pop rock sensibility and an emphasis on melody, Hüsker Dü's sound on these two albums helped define what would later be called "alternative rock" or "college rock".  It is fast, up-beat, and smart with loose riffs and catchy harmonies and melodies.

Brew Info:

  • Brewery: Fisher Brewing Company (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Website: http://www.fisherbeer.com/
  • Brew: Rig To Flip West Coast-style IPA
  • Style: American India Pale Ale (IPA)
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.5%
  • Ingredients: Amarillo, Centennial, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops
  • Pour: The Rig To Flip pours a slightly hazy, dark copper-amber with a frothy and billowy, off-white, 2-finger head with great retention and lots of intricate sudsy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is dank, earthy, herbal, citrusy, and malty.  There are aromas of grapefruit rind, orange peel, wet pine needles, cedar, light onion, fresh herbs, and soft caramel.
  • Taste: The taste follows the nose... big earthy, piney, dank, and malty flavors.  There are notes of  grapefruit, orange peel and pith, black tea, pine resin, light onion, crackery biscuit, sweet caramel/toffee, and some spicy pepper in the finish.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is very crisp, yet smooth with a dry, somewhat bitter, peppery finish.

Overall pairing:
I put together this particular pairing of Fisher's
Rig To Flip and Hüsker Dü's "Flip Your Wig / Candy Apple Grey" combo album because they both are big on interesting flavors and notes with a nice punch!  Both the beer and the music highlight artisans at the top of their games!  'Nuff said!

Cheers!!
