May 1st, 2022 - Between The Breath & Bramble, The Song Remains The Same

Hello and happy Sunday rockers, rollers, and craft brew lovers!  Your pal the Meista here with a pairing of the great "The Song Remains The Same" by giants of the hard rock / proto-metal world, Led Zeppelin and a Breath & Bramble from Roadhouse Brewing Company!  Oh yeah!

Album Info:

  • Artist: Led Zeppelin
  • Title: "The Song Remains The Same"
  • Recorded: Live July 27th through 29th, 1973 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York
  • Release date: September 28th, 1976 (1st live album released by Led Zeppelin)
  • Record company: Swan Song
  • Production: Jimmy Page and Peter Grant
  • Album cover art: Hipgnosis and George Hardie
  • Personnel: John Henry Bonham "Bonzo" (drums, percussion, and backing vocals), John Paul Jones (bass, Fender Rhodes, and Mellotron), Jimmy Page (acoustic and electric guitars, and Theremin), and Robert Plant (lead vocals)
  • Musical style: Hard rock, proto-metal, heavy blues rock with elements of folk rock
  • Sound: Raw, high-energy, and honest, the sound on the album is sometimes a bit sloppy, but it is pure Zeppelin!  Of the album, Page stated, "Obviously we were committed to putting this album out, although it wasn't necessarily the best live stuff we have. I don't look upon it as a live album...it's essentially a soundtrack."
  • Major themes: The blues, Life, death, rock and roll, love, lust, sex, loss, the blues, isolation, etc.
  • Notes: One of my fondest childhood memories was seeing a midnight showing of "The Song Remains The Same" at the Wilshire Theater in my hometown of Ogden, Utah with my good friend John and his brother Andy back in 1980s.  I still have my ticket stub in fact!  I adore this movie!!
  • Tracks:
  1. "Rock And Roll"
  2. "Celebration Day"
  3. "The Song Remains The Same"
  4. "The Rain Song"
  5. "Dazed And Confused"
  6. "No Quarter"
  7. "Stairway To Heaven"
  8. "Moby Dick"
  9. "Whole Lotta Love"

Brew Info:

  • Brewery: Roadhouse Brewing Company (Jackson Hole, Wyoming)
  • Website: http://roadhousebrewery.com/
  • Brew: Breath & Bramble
  • Style: Sour Ale brewed with raspberries and Meyer lemons
  • Serving: 12 ounce can
  • ABV: 5.0%
  • Pour: The Breath & Bramble  pours a hazy, golden peach-orange color with a frothy, half-finger bright white head that dissipates quickly, leaving a thin ring with light lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is citrusy, fruity, and tart.  There are aromas of fresh raspberries, lemon juice and zest, cranberries, light vinegar, very light grains, and a hint of honey.
  • Taste: The taste of the Breath & Bramble follows the nose with lots of fruity, tart, punchy flavors.  There are notes of raspberries, lemon juice, lemon zest, a hint of grapefruit, cranberry juice, tart cherry, white vinegar, and a hint of honey.
  • Mouthfeel: Light in body and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel is very crisp, effervescent, and tart with a lip-puckering, yet clean finish.

Overall pairing: Although I'm not sure any brew can truly do this album justice, the Breath & Bramble from Roadhouse Brewing Company with all its complexity and tart flavors, does a pretty fine job of accompanying the swinging grooves, heavy-duty punch, the multilayered depth, and the sheer brilliance of the mighty Zep's "The Song Remains The Same"!  And with the low ABV, you can certainly crush a few Breath & Brambles while rockin' and rollin' to this double album!  'Nuff said!

Cheers!!
