Brew Info:
- Brewery: Deschutes Brewing Company (Bend, Oregon)
- Website: http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/
- Brew: Cherries Jubelale Barrel-Aged Imperial Winter Warmer
- Style: Winter Warmer
- Serving: 12 ounce bottle
- ABV: 9.2%
- IBUs: 50
- Ingredients: East Kent Goldings hops and Pale, Crystal, Extra Special, Caramel, and Roast malts with cherries and vanilla
- Pour: The Cherries Jubelale pours a very deep and cloudy garnet hue with a light-tan, half-finger head with good retention that leaves sudsy lacing behind.
- Nose: The nose is malty, sweet, tart, slightly spicy, woody, and boozy. There are notes of cherry juice, vanilla bean, nutmeg, cloves, oak, and bready aromas with this one along with some nice bourbon, herbal and toffee notes.
- Taste: The flavor is rich and earthy with notes of chicory, light roasted coffee, fruit ester, and chewy malt. There are notes of caramel/toffee and fresh bread that give way to tart cherry juice, creamy vanilla, bourbon, black tea and spices. There are also some really nice dark fruit (prunes and raisins) notes throughout. There is a nice balance of bitterness with malt and subtle sweetness and warm booziness.
- Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with low carbonation, the Cherries Jubelale is sticky and syrupy, yet very smooth with a rather dry, boozy finish.
Overall pairing: The Cherries Jubelale is a really nice, complex, and boozy winter ale... perfect for kicking back on a cold winter night with the angry and beautifully aggressive "The Fatal Feast: Waste In Space" by the mighty Municipal Waste! 'Nuff said!
Cheers and hails!!
