August 20th, 2023 - Touching Cumulonimbus... or ... Here Comes The Cumulonimbus Again

Hello and happy Sunday artisan beer freaks!  Something a little different for you today from my usual metal/hard rock pairings.  The Meista here today spinning "Touch", the wonderful 3rd album (which turns 40 this year, if you can believe that!) by Eurythmics and a tasty, tart, and very crushable Cumulonimbus from Falling Knife Brewing Company!  Hell yeah!!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Eurythmics
  • Title: "Touch"
  • Recorded: Summer 1983 at The Church Studios in London, England
  • Release date: November 14th, 1983 (3rd studio album by the Eurythmics)
  • Record company: RCA Records
  • Production: David A. Stewart
  • Album cover art: Peter Ashworth (photography) and Laurence Stevens (art design and direction)
  • Personnel: Annie Lennox (lead and backing vocals, keyboards, flute, and arrangements), Dave A. Stewart (guitars, keyboards, dulcimer, xylophone, backing vocals, drum sequencer, synthesizer sequencer, and arrangements)
  • Additional musicians: Dick Cuthell (trumpet, cornet, and flugelhorn), Martin Dobson (baritone saxophone on "Right By Your Side"), Dean Garcia (bass guitar), Michael Kamen (string arrangements and conducting), and the British Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Musical style: Pop rock, synth pop, new wave
  • Sound: Building from sound and success of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)", the Eurythmics' sound on "Touch" is that classic ethereal, atmospheric, mesmerizing, and engrossing sound of the band.  Lennox's vocals are captivating, sultry, and incredibly powerful.  Stewart's musicianship, arrangements and production is the stuff of genius and cannot be matched.

    1. "Here Comes The Rain Again"
    2. "Regrets"

    4. "Cool Blue"
    5. "Who's That Girl?"
    6. "The First Cut"
    7. "Aqua"
    8. "No Fear, No Hate, No Pain (No Broken Hearts)"
    9. "Paint A Rumour"

    Brew Info:
    • Brewery: Falling Knife Brewing Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota)
    • Website: https://fallingknife.beer/
    • Brew: Cumulonimbus
    • Style: Fruited Kettle Sour Ale
    • Serving: 16 ounce can
    • ABV: 4.7%
    • Ingredients: Kettle sour fruited with pink guava, pineapple, and passionfruit
    • Pour: The Cumulonimbus pours a hazy, golden straw yellow with a fluffy, frothy, bright white, 1+ finger head that dissipates to the thin ring with light lacing.
    • Nose: The nose is characterized by fruity, citrusy, floral, grainy, and subtle sweetness.  There are aromas of fresh guava, pineapple, passionfruit, lemon juice and zest, light mango, lime, wildflowers, crackery grains, and a subtle hint of funk.
    • Taste: The taste of the Cumulonimbus follows the nose with lots of ripe fruit, citrus, and more subtle malt flavors.  There are notes of big notes of guava along with lemon juice, lime, pineapple, passionfruit, light mango, orange zest, and pale grains with a hint of caramel.
    • Mouthfeel: Light to medium-bodied and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel is very crisp, tart, refreshing, and acidic with a dry, crisp, clean finish.

Overall pairing: The Falling Knife Cumulonimbus is a complex, fruity, and delicious brew... perfect for the jazzy grooves, synth pop sensibility, and thoughtful lyrics of pop icons Eurythmics!  'Nuff said!

    Cheers!!
