June 14th, 2025 - To My Left, Demons; To My Right, the Lord of the Ryes

Hey there evil-doers, metalheads, and craft beer fanatics!  The Meista here rocking out on this sunny Saturday to a pairing of Triptykon's killer debut album "Eparistera Daimones" and a very bold and tasty Lord Of The Ryes Rye Stout from the fine folks at Bewilder Brewing Company!  This pairing is dedicated to my good friend Jerm... cheers and hails brother!!

  • Release date: March 23rd, 2010 (1st studio album by Triptykon)

  • Album cover art: H.R. Gieger
  • Personnel: Tom Gabriel Warrior (guitars, keyboards, programming, and lead vocals), Norman Lonhard (drums and percussion), V. Santura (guitars, programming, and vocals), and Vanja Šlajh (bass)
  • Guest musician: A. Acanthus Gristle (additional vocals), Nadine Rimlinger (violin on "The Prolonging"), Fredy Schnyder (piano on "Myopic Empire"), and Simone Vollenweider (additional vocals)
  • Musical style: Gothic metal, doom metal with elements of death metal and black metal
  • Sound: As with all that Thomas Gabriel Warrior composes, the tracks on "Eparistera Daimone" are compelling, dark, and absolutely brilliant!  As much as I wish Celtic Frost was still a thing, Triptykon is a fitting substitute... but definitely its own wonderfully executed sonic journey!  Warrior, along with his band of miscreants are on top of their game here, delivering 9 tracks of darkened metal beauty!
  • Major themes: Death, darkness, sorrow, decay, despair, the occult, pain, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "Goetia"
  2. "Abyss Within My Soul"
  3. "In Shrouds Decayed"
  4. "Shrine"
  5. "A Thousand Lies"
  6. "Descendant"
  7. "Myopic Empire"
  8. "My Pain"
  9. "The Prolonging"

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Bewilder Brewing Company (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Website: https://bewilderbrewing.com/
  • Brew: Lord of the Ryes
  • Style: Rye Stout
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 6.66%
  • IBUs: 55
  • Pour: The Lord of the Ryes pours a deep, dark brown, almost black (black like the pits of Hell!) with creamy, 1-finger, light mocha head with good retention and sudsy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is a robust blend of hearty malts, peppery rye, and bittersweet chocolate.  There are aromas of dark toasted rye bread, dark roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, burnt toffee, woody oak, and a hint of bourbon.
  • Taste: The taste of the Lord of the Ryes follows the nose with bold, roasty, toasty, malty, and earthy flavors.  There are notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, peppery rye, dark roasted malts, a hint of bourbon, and burnt toffee, and all balanced with light hops.
  • Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with low carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Lord of the Ryes is thick, velvety smooth, and creamy with a dry, somewhat bittersweet finish.
  •
Overall pairing: The Bewilder Lord of the Ryes is a dark, bold, and very tasty brew... perfect for doomy metal onslaught that is the mighty Triptykon's seminal "Eparistera Daimones" album!  Those bold, dark roasty flavors go great with the overall low-end heaviness and the dark intensity of the songs, while the peppery rye bite is great for the aggressive guitar and vocal attack!  'Nuff said!

                    Cheers and hails evil-doers!!
