Hello and happy Saturday craft beer freaks, and rock and rollers!  The Meista here today pairing "Tales From The Punchbowl" by the Primus and a bold and hearty Wynona's Big Brown Ale from Voodoo Brewing Company!  This pairing is dedicated to my good friends Sonia and Jason, and my amazing wife!

  • Sound: With that signature eccentricity they are known for, "Tales From The Punchbowl" is a trippy, atmospheric, sometimes silly, sometimes intense, a bit creepy, and wonderfully and masterfully written, executed, and produced album! It is high energy and delves further into their prog rock side.

  • Website: https://www.voodoobrewery.com/
  • Brew: Wynona's Big Brown Ale
  • Style: American Brown Ale
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.5%
  • Ingredients: Brown malt and house ale yeast
  • Pour: The Wynona's Big Brown Ale pours a chestnut brown hue with a thick and frothy, 1+ finger, light tan head with great retention and lots of soapy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is characterized by nutty, robust and sweet malts, earthiness, and light hops.  There are aromas of light roasted coffee beans, toasted bread crust, roasted malts, roasted walnuts, fresh herbs, brown sugar, and sweet, burnt toffee.
  • Taste: The taste of the Wynona's Big Brown Ale follows the nose with lots of malty, earthy, and robust flavors.  There are notes of a roasted malt, roasted walnuts, hearty multi-grain bread, cocoa, coffee, hint of raisins, and sweet caramel/toffee.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel of the Wynona's Big Brown Ale hearty and smooth with a malty, slightly hoppy, bittersweet finish.

Overall pairing: The Wynona's Big Brown Ale is bold, sweet, and hearty brew, yet very crushable... perfect for the intricate and funky rhythms of Primus' amazing "
Tales From The Punchbowl"!  Theat robust, malty backbone is perfect for Claypool's intricate, complex bass lines while the sweeter and hoppier notes go great with the proggy guitars and lyrics.  'Nuff said!

Cheers!!
