May 4th, 2012 - Ticket to Ephemere or Sisters of the White Ale

And now for something completely different.  Here's another pairing for you this evening: Salt Lake's very own Danger Hailstorm and their brilliant 2010 album "Two" and Unibroue's Ephemere Season White Ale.  And this pairing goes out to Terrance DH of Danger Hailstorm... happy birthday mister!

Ephemere, brewed by the somewhat whimsical Canadian Brewery, Unibroue is a light and refreshing Belgian-styled white ale brewed with apple juice.  Cloudy and honey in color, the Ephemere pours a frothy 1-2 finger head that dissipates quickly. The nose if very fruity and fragrant... the aroma is that of a bushel of Granny Smith apples.  The mouthfeel sharp and frothy, but well-balanced.  Ephemere has notes of sour apple, coriander, citrus and mild spices.  Definitely a solid, good, refreshing seasonal ale for the summer months.

I paired this beer with this album for several reasons, but specifically because of the female French speaker in the beginning of "Le Bass" and for the humorous drinking references in "Ticket to Ride."   As soon as I decided to purchase this beer, Danger Hailstorm's name and these two songs popped in my head.  And speaking of pop... this album really pops!  From the opening humorous track "Flight 101" on to final drum track of "The Vanimal," Danger Hailstorm delivers a fun, well-balanced, fast-paced, post-punk rocker with Terrance's signature guitar work and vocal stylings.  This is the man who helped define the Salt Lake punk sound of the 1980s and is one of my local heroes.  Songs like "My Bandito," "Freeride," the powerful "Beware," and "Sister of the Dark Moon" deliver a refreshing and sharp sound... so well-paired with Ephemere.  Both make me want to move!

If you are looking for some fun, solid music and a refreshing and interesting brew, check out Danger Hailstorm and Unibroue's Ephemere.   Pick up a copy of "Two" by Danger Hailstorm from Raunch Records!  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Raunch-Records-Official/134410619919996
