October 26th, 2013 - La Fin Du Nuclear Cowboy!

Hey there!  The Meista here pairing "Nuclear Cowboy" by Sykes and A La Fin Du Monde Triple Golden Ale on Lees from Unibroue Brewing!

"Nuclear Cowboy" is the 4th studio album by guitar virtuoso John Sykes and was released in 2000.   On this album, Sykes experiments with electronics and looping along with to his characteristic guitar and vocal work.  When I first heard "Nuclear Cowboy," I admit that I wasn't sure what to think. I think I was expecting something more along the lines of Blue Murder. However, after spinning this disc a few times I came to love it. It's edgy, bold, well-crafted, and Sykes really goes out on a limb here. Sure, it may be a little overproduced and I'm still not totally hip on the drum loops and other effects, but it really has a great feel... and who else plays like guitar John Sykes? Talk about vibrato and sustain!!  This guy is the master!  The song structure is reminiscent of the work of Syke's hero, Phil Lynott and his writing on the Thin Lizzy albums as well as his work in Whitesnake.  Sykes is joined by the legendary Carmine Appice on drums and percussion, Marco Mendozza on bass and backing vocals, and Jamie Muhoberac and Alex Alessandroni who both provide keyboards.  Some highlights of "Nuclear Cowboy" are the title track, "Arc Angel," "Talkin 'Bout Love," "One Way System," "I Wish It Would Rain," and "Raising The Devil."  If you are a fan of Whitesnake (particularly the 1987 album), Blue Murder, and Tygers of Pan Tang, then you need to find yourself a copy of this powerfully complex and rocking album!!

Unibroue is one of the best breweries out there in my opinion when it comes to Belgian-style ales.  They are inventive, solid, and masters of their craft.  La Fin Du Monde Triple Golden Ale on Lees definitely follows that statement!  This is one fantastic beer!  It pours a light, hazy golden yellow with a frothy 1-finger head that leaves beautiful and complex cascading lacing.  The nose is full of yeast goodness, malts, and fruit ester.  There are strong notes of pineapple and citrus.  The flavor is slightly boozy (9% ABV after all), with a complex and wonderful balance of malts and sweetness.  There are notes of rock candy, tangerine, pineapple, pear, and soft banana along with biscuit.  It finishes with a nice spiciness that is very subtle and perfect for this style of ale.   La Fin Du Monde is probably one of the best triples you will find out there!

Cheers!
