November 9th, 2013 - Bold As Mocha Porter

Evening my friends!  The Meista here pairing a couple favorites of mine... a Mocha Porter from Rogue Ales and the almost indescribable brilliance of "Axis: Bold As Love" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience!!  This one goes out to my brotha Chad... love ya man... cheers!!

Like the dude on the bottle, I raise my fist to the overwhelming brilliance of "Axis: Bold As Love"!!  Let's talk about this amazing album...
Personnel: Jimi Hendrix - lead vocals, acoustic and electric guitars; Noel Redding - backing vocals (lead on "She's So Fine") and bass guitar; Mitch Mitchell - backing vocals and drums; Eddie Kramer - engineer
Release: 2nd release by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, December 1967 (only 7 months after "Are You Experienced?")
Sound: Mind blowing!!  A PERFECT fusion of psychedelic, blues, hard rock, jazz, and R&B!  Jimi's guitar work is un-fuckin'-paralleled.. seriously!!  And his vocal work is meaty, honest, rich and oh so Mocha Porter!!  Mitchell swing like nobody's business and Redding's bass work is brilliant, deep, and soulful... an unsung hero!
Lyrics: Also mind blowing!!  Just listen to "Up From The Skies" or "Little Wing" (goddamn... this song is perfection!!) or "Castles Made of Sand" or "Bold As Love" or .... !!  Those analogies on "Bold As Love" almost bring me to tear every damn time I hear them.
Tracks:
  1. EXP
  2. Up From The Skies
  3. Spanish Castle Magic
  4. Wait Until Tomorrow
  5. Ain't No Telling

Overall rating: "My yellow in this case is not so mellow!"

Let's chat about the brew...
Ale: Rogue Mocha Porter
ABV: 5.3%
Appearance: Opaque, deep brown - almost ink black with a half-finger, tan head that dissipates quickly leaving only trace lacing
Aroma: high-quality Columbian coffee, rich soil, unsweetened cooking chocolate, a hint of vanilla bean
Mouthfeel: rather light for a stout, but exceptionally creamy
Taste: iced coffee, bittersweet dark chocolate, whole milk, vanilla extract, a hint of black tea and a hint of sweet raisin
Overall rating: 9/10

That's all I gotta say about that... cheers!!
