March 22nd, 2014 - A Symphony Of Austrian Pils And Power Metal

Good evening!  The Meista here pairing a couple Austrian imports tonight... "Aphelion" by Edenbridge and a Salzburger Stiegl Pils from Stieglbrauerei zu Salzburg GmbH!

The Salzburger Stiegl Pils from Stieglbrauerei zu Salzburg GmbH is a traditional German Pilsner originally brewed in Bohemia, the German-speaking province in the old Austrian Empire.  The Stiegl Pils pours a light, clear straw yellow with a thin white head.  The nose is sweet and grassy.  There are notes of biscuit, barley malt, and slightly skunky and very grassy hops.  Light-bodied with high carbonation, the mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing and rather dry.  Much like the nose, the flavor is bready, malty, and grassy.  There are notes of sourdough bread, lager yeast, grain, grassy hops, and a fairly thin malt character.  The Stiegl Pils finishes clean and dry with a slight linger sweetness... a good brew to float away with the epic songs of Edenbridge!

Released on January 27th of 2003, "Aphelion" is the 3rd studio album by Austrian symphonic power metal band Edenbridge.  Characterized by Sabine Edelsbacher's beautiful vocal range, the soaring and melodic guitar passages of Arne "Lanvall" Stockhammer and Andreas Eibler, and fantasy/sci-fi lyrical themes, "Aphelion" is a bright and passionate symphonic metal album!  Songs like "The Undiscovered Land", "Skyward", "Perennial Dreams", "The Whispering Gallery", "Farpoint Anywhere", and "Red Ball In Blue Sky" make this album an instant symphonic metal classic!  At the time of the release of "Aphelion", Edenbridge was made up by Edelsbacher (lead and backing vocals), Lanvall (rhythm and acoustic guitars, piano and keyboards, and bouzouki), Eibler (lead and rhythm guitars), and Roland Navratil (drums and percussion).  Guest musicians included Stefan Model (bass) and D. C. Cooper (lead and backing vocals on "Red Ball in Blue Sky").
