August 22nd, 2014 - Fröhliching Into Blackout

Good afternoon!  Today's pairing is a collaboration between Brews and Tunes and the Utah Beer Blog!   Mikey and I got together yesterday and had several great brews at the Beer Bar and the Beer Hive here in Salt Lake and discussed music.  One such beer we sampled was the new Fröhlich Pils from Red Rock Brewery.  Mikey had the great idea of pairing the this German-style brew with "Blackout" by the Scorpions... and I definitely agree!

Check out the description of the Fröhlich Pils on the Utah Beer Blog: http://utahbeer.blogspot.com/2014/08/new-beer-friday-beer-camp-edition.html!  And if you haven't done so already, make sure you start following this amazing blog!!

"Blackout" is 8th studio album by German hard rock/metal band the Scorpions.  It was recorded between November 1981 and January 1982 at Villa San Pecaire, Saint Jacques, Grasse, France and  Dierks Studios, Cologne, Germany and released on March 29th, 1982.  Personnel on the album included: Klaus Meine (lead vocals), Matthias Jabs (lead and rhythm guitars, and 6-string acoustic guitar), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitars, lead guitar on tracks 4,8 and 9, 6+12 string acoustic guitars, and backing vocals), Francis Buchholz (bass), and Herman Rarebell (drums, percussion, and backing vocals).  The explosive rocking and roll style of this album goes great with the crisp and refreshing nature of the easy-drinkin' Fröhlich Pils!  Songs like the title track, "Can't Live Without You", "No One Like You", "Now!", "Dynamite", and "China White" are German heavy metal precision!  Man what a great album!!  (Interesting side note: Meine had vocal cord surgery prior to recording "Blackout" and was uncertain whether he would be able continue with the band. Initial demos of the material were recorded with Don Dokken as vocalist!)

Prost!!
