August 23rd, 2014 - Bloody Pit Of Pig War!

Evening friends!  The Meista here with another collaborative pairing between Brews and Tunes and the Utah Beer Blog!  (This took place on Thursday, August 21st.)  When I asked Mikey what he thought we should pair the Pig War White India Pale Ale (IPA) from Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) with, he simply and very casually stuck his thumb over the "P" and the "I" of the name Pig War... genius!!  So, today's pairing is the Pig War White IPA and Gwar's "Bloody Pit Of Horror"!!   Hell yeah!

Here's a link to Mikey's description of the Pig War White IPA: http://utahbeer.blogspot.com/2014/08/new-beer-friday-8814.html

Released on November 9, 2010 through Metal Blade Records, "Bloody Pit Of Horror" is the 12th studio album by theatrical, parody metal band Gwar.  Sadly, it is the last album to feature guitarist Corey Smoot and his alter ego Flattus Maximus.  Smoot died in November 2011 after a gig from coronary artery thrombosis.  Founding member and lead vocalist Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) officially announced the day after Smoot's death that the character of Flattus Maximus would be retired out of respect to Smoot.  With songs like "Zombies, March!", "Tick-Tits", "Beat You To Death", "You Are My Meat", "The Litany Of The Slain", and "Sick And Twisted", Gwar once again combines fast-paced thrash metal with their irreverent humor.  Thematically, the songs deal with death, destruction, human slavery to the might of the alien Gwar power, more death, more destruction, and sex.  :)  I'm not sure if anything would fit better with the sharp, hoppy bite of the Pig War White IPA!

Hails!!
