  • Musical style: Alternative rock, alternative hip hop with elements of "folk and country, grungy garage rock, stiff-boned electro, louche exotica, old-school rap and noise rock"
  • Sound: Incorporating elements from multiple musical genres, Beck's sound on "Odelay" is a strange and intriguing musical journey into the mad mind of Beck Hansen.  It feels very "1990s" to me.
  • Major themes: Rather abstract views of life, music, relationships, being, good and evil, learning, etc.

    Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Edge Brewing Company (Boise, Idaho)
  • Website: http://www.edgebrew.com/
  • Brew: Odelay! Vienna Style Lager
  • Style: Vienna Lager
  • Serving: 22 ounce bottle
  • ABV: 5.5%
  • IBUs: 23
  • Ingredients: Vienna, Munich, and Melanoidin malts, and Czech Saaz hops
  • Pour: The Odelay! pours a slightly hazy caramel amber with a bubbly off-white, 1+ finger head with good retention and moderate lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is malty, nutty, sweet, and bready.  There are aromas of freshly baked wheat bread, molasses, honey, and hazelnut.
  • Taste: The taste is characterized by bready and nutty malt flavors and very mellow hops.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is slick and very smooth with a crisp and clean finish.
Overall pairing: Apart from the insanely obvious title pairing, the nutty and malty Vienna style flavors and aromas of the Edge's Odelay! Vienna Style Lager works really well with the ever evolving musical styles and influences found intricately woven throughout "Odelay".  Admittedly, I have to be in the right mood to listen to Beck... and to drink a Vienna Lager for that matter.  But the two seem to work really well together when that time comes!

Cheers!!
