January 2nd, 2021 - A Synchronized Hazification

Hello rockers, rollers, and hop lovers!  The Meista here getting the day started off right with a kick-ass brew and rockin' album... Fisher Brewing Company's East coast style Hazification IPA and the fantastic "Synchronicity" by The Police!

Album Info:

  • Artist: The Police
  • Title: "Synchronicity"
  • Recorded: December 1982 through February 1983 at AIR Studios in Montserrat and Le Studio in Quebec
  • Release date: June 17th, 1983 (5th and final studio album by The Police)
  • Record company: A&M Records
  • Production: The Police and Hugh Padgham
  • Album cover art: Jeffrey Kent Ayeroff, Norman Moore, and Vartan (art direction), Jeffrey Kent Ayeroff and Norman Moore (design), and Duane Michals (photography)
  • Personnel: Stewart Copeland (drums, xylophone, and miscellaneous percussion instruments), Sting (bass guitar, keyboards, lead and backing vocals, oboe, drum machine on "Synchronicity I", and saxophone on "O My God"), and Andy Summers (electric guitar, backing vocals, keyboards, and lead vocals on "Mother")
  • Musical style: Rock, pop, art rock, world music with elements of reggae rock (which were more prevalent on their earlier albums), post punk, and new wave
  • Sound: Richly complex and wonderfully written, produced, and executed, "Synchronicity" is a fascinated album sonically speaking.  Multiple musical styles are incorporated.  Although the raw more reggae-centric sound of their earlier albums is mostly gone, this is probably the band's crowning musical achievement... simply wonderful!
  • Major themes: Inspired by Arthur Koestler's book The Roots of Coincidence, which examined theories of parapsychology, including extrasensory perception and psychokinesis and Carl Jung's theory of synchronicity, the album's themes include deterioration of the nuclear family, history, extinction, paranoia, obsession, pain, love, and hope.
  • Notes: The three band members recorded their parts in separate rooms: Stewart Copeland in a dining room, Sting in the studio control booth, and Andy Summers in the actual studio.  The band members weren't speaking at the time and Sting and Copeland actually came to blows at one point!
  • Tracks:
  1. "Synchronicity I"
  2. "Walking In Your Footsteps"
  3. "O My God"
  4. "Mother"
  5. "Miss Gradenko"
  6. "Synchronicity II"
  7. "Every Breathe You Take"
  8. "King Of Pain"
  9. "Wrapped Around Your Finger"
  10. "Tea In The Sahara"
  11. "Murder By Numbers"

Brew Info:

  • Brewery: Fisher Brewing Company (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Website: http://www.fisherbeer.com/
  • Brew: Hazification
  • Style: East Coast India Pale Ale (IPA)
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.0%
  • Ingredients: Citra and Mosaic hops
  • Pour: The Hazification pours a hazy copper-amber with a frothy, bright white, 1-finger head with great retention and lots of intricate sudsy lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is a big hop blast of citrus and tropical fruit along with berries and sweet malts.  There are aromas of grapefruit rind, orange, tangerine, lemon zest, strawberry, lime, mango, passion fruit, and soft caramel.
  • Taste: The taste follows the nose... big citrus, tropical fruit, berries, and sweet malts.  There are notes of juicy pink grapefruit, orange juice, strawberry, tangerine, lemon zest, mango, herbal tea, light herbs, and sweet caramel/toffee.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is very crisp, yet smooth with a dry, rather clean finish.

Overall pairing:
I put together this particular pairing for 2 specific reasons: 1) I adore both this album and this brew! 2) I think the complex and punchy citrusy hop flavors of the
Hazification works great with the profoundly powerful, well-written, and sheer pop-rock genius of  "Synchronicity"!  'Nuff said!

Cheers!!
