August 4th, 2021 - The Buffalo Soldier Heads Off To War

Good evening evildoers and craft brew lovers!  I'm here tonight banging my head to Venom Inc.'s killer "War" (limited edition, signed 10" single) with a delicious and punchy Buffalo Soldier Black Rye IPA (one of my favorites) from my good friends at UTOG Brewing Company!  Hell yeah!!

Album Info:
  • Artist: Venom Inc.
  • Title: "War" (limited edition, signed 10" single)
  • Recorded: 2018; live tracks recorded in 2018 in France
  • Release date: August 17th, 2018 (1st single released by Venom, Inc.)
  • Record company: Nuclear Blast
  • Production: Mantas
  • Album cover art: Marcelo Vasco
  • Personnel: Abaddon (drums on live tracks), Demolition Man (bass and vocals), and Mantas (guitars and drum programming on "War" studio version)
  • Musical style: Heavy metal, thrash metal
  • Sound: Steeped in the early sound of Venom, the sound on the "War" single is a heavy, aggressive, and furious sonic attack!  The rhythms are foot-stomping and fist shaking fun, while the riffing is fiery as hell and full of piss and vinegar!
  • Major themes: War, violence, death destruction, etc.
  • Tracks:
  1. "War" (Armageddon edit)
  2. "War" (live - even less dubs than none)
  3. "Warhead" (live - no dubs)

Brew Info:
  • Brewery: UTOG Brewing Company (Ogden, Utah)
  • Website: https://www.utogbrewing.com/
  • Brew: Buffalo Soldier Black Rye IPA
  • Style: Black India Pale Ale (IPA) / Cascade Dark Ale / American Black Ale
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 7.2%
  • IBUs: 87
  • Pour: The Buffalo Soldier pours an opaque, deep, dark brown (almost ink black) with a creamy and firm, 2-finger, light mocha head with great retention and lots of sticky and intricate spider web lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is citrusy, malty, herbal, and spicy.  There are aromas of freshly baked rye bread, dark roasted malts, walnuts, light coffee, strong tea, grapefruit rind, tangerine, orange peel, soft caramel, and black pepper.
  • Taste: The taste of the Buffalo Soldier is peppery, herbal, citrusy, and malty.  There are notes of dark roasted malts, rye bread, pink grapefruit juice, orange peel, black tea, bitter herbs, and sweet toffee.
  • Mouthfeel: Medium to full in body and moderately carbonated, the mouthfeel is crisp, spicy, yet smooth with a peppery, slightly bitter, dry finish.

Overall pairing: The Buffalo Soldier from UTOG Brewing is a dark, spicy, citrusy, biting brew, which makes it a great companion to the heavy-duty aggressiveness and ass-kicking ministrations of Venom Inc.!  'Nuff said!

Cheers and hails to Venom, Inc.!!
