November 5th, 2022 - Say Something Nasty... Like Dirty Chai!

 

Hello and happy Saturday rockers, rollers, and artisan beer freaks!  Today I'm pairing Nashville Pussy's killer "Say Something Nasty" with a Barrel-Aged Imperial Dirty Chai Stout from the fine folks at SaltFire Brewing Company!  Hell yeah!  This pairing goes out to my buddy Rod C... thanks very much for the CD, buddy!!

• Ingredients: Maris Otter, C-80, Chocolate, Pale Chocolate, Special B, and roasted barley malts with Magnum hops, lactose, chai spices, and coffee beans
• Pour: The Barrel-Aged Imperial Dirty Chai Stout pours an almost ink black hue a with a thin, off-white head that slowly dissipates to a thin ring with good lacing.
• Nose: The nose is roasty, earthy, spicy, and boozy.  There are aromas of black licorice, vanilla beans, chai tea, roasted espresso beans, bitter herbs, oak, toffee, and bourbon.
• Taste: The taste of the Barrel-Aged Imperial Dirty Chai Stout is herbal, spicy, and boozy.  There are notes of wild herbs, toasted rye bread, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, dark roasted coffee, light vanilla, black pepper, sticky toffee pudding, and sweet bourbon. 
• Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with low carbonation, the mouthfeel is smooth, yet punchy with a rather dry, slightly boozy and bitter finish.

Overall pairing: The Barrel-Aged Imperial Dirty Chai Stout is a bold, unique, and flavorful brew... perfect for the irreverent, aggressive hard rock stylings of Nashville Pussy!  The chai spices go great with the gravely vocals and screaming guitars, while the booziness is great for the overall aggressiveness, and the bourbon notes work well with the swampy southern rock vibe!  I also think the pairing works well aesthetically.
