Brew Info:
  • Brewery: Brouwerij Huyghe (Melle, Belgium)
  • Website: https://www.brouwerijhuyghe.be/en
  • Brew: Delirium Tremens Belgian Ale
  • Style: Belgian Golden Ale
  • Serving: 16 ounce can
  • ABV: 8.5%
  • IBUs: 24.5
  • Pour: The Delirium Tremens pours a fairly clear, beautiful golden rod color with a foamy, white, 2-finger head with good, sustained lacing.
  • Nose: The nose is characterized by fruit esters, Belgian yeast, and light breadiness and spices.  There are aromas of pear, apple, soft banana, Chardonnay, and light clove and nutmeg.
  • Taste: The taste of the Delirium Tremens follows the nose with lots of fruity, spicy, and bready flavors.  There are notes of sour apple, pear juice, white grape, pineapple, and soft banana along with more subtle spice (clove, nutmeg, and slight pepperiness in the back), crackery biscuit, and an ever so slight booziness.
  • Mouthfeel: Well balanced, medium-bodied, and well-carbonated, the mouthfeel is characterized by lots of effervescent bubbles that seem multiply in your mouth.  It is crispy, slightly spicy, and fizzy with a dry finish with lingering flavors.

Overall pairing: The Delirium Tremens is complex and intriguing brew with lots of fruity and spicy flavors... a great beer to pair with the intensity and technical mastery of Narcotic Wasteland's wonderful "Delirium Tremens" album!  The brightness of the beer is a great foil to the dark elements of the album, while the spices lend themselves well to the more aggressive passages.  'Nuff said!
