Hello and welcome! This silly blog is an experiment in my own vanity in terms of my opinions on craft beer and music and various pairings (much like you would do with food). I definitely want to express that I am no expert in terms of brewing or in musical composition. This is merely opinion, my opinion (sometimes clouded by consumption) with regards to enjoyable beers and music. Cheers! October 11th, 2013 - At The Edge of Oktoberfest!
Good afternoon! The Meista here with another lost pairing for you! As with this morning's pairing, this one comes from a while back that I again neglected to post... a Blind Guardian's "At The Edge Of Time" with a Gordon Biersch FestBier!
"At The Edge Of Time" is the 9th studio album by seminal German power metal band Blind Guardian. It was released in the summer of 2010. As with previous works, this album follows Blind Guardian's characteristic sound and themes of staccato guitars and double bass drumming, folk influence, and mystical lyrics... and of course the huge vocal range and unique voice of the amazing Hansi Kürsch!! André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen provide the lightening quick guitars while Frederik Ehmke provides the thunderous drums and percussion as well as flute and bagpipes. Guest musician Oliver Holzwarth of Rhapsody of Fire provides the bass guitar. A soaring monster of an album, "At The Edge Of Time" is brilliantly written and executed! Each track is richly performed and a joy to hear!
A Märzen/Oktoberfest-style lager the FestBier from Gordon Biersch pours a deep honey-amber with a frothy, off-white, 1-finger head that leave strong and sustained lacing. The nose is sweet and malty - notes of caramel and freshly baked bread with just a hint of hoppy bitterness. The flavor starts off sweet and bready, like the nose, with a touch of buttery toffee. Mid-range notes are a bit more biting: grassy and bitter hops. The hops and sweet malty notes continue through the finish with some subtle floral/herbal notes that fade into a rather clean finish.
The FestBier is a very good beer for a very great album!!
Prost!!
