Hello and welcome! This silly blog is an experiment in my own vanity in terms of my opinions on craft beer and music and various pairings (much like you would do with food). I definitely want to express that I am no expert in terms of brewing or in musical composition. This is merely opinion, my opinion (sometimes clouded by consumption) with regards to enjoyable beers and music. Cheers! October 27th, 2013 - The Altered States of Don De Dieu
Good evening! The Meista here with a pairing of "Altered State" by British progressive metal band Tesseract (often artistically stylized as TesseracT) and a Don De Dieu Triple Wheat Ale from Unibroue out of Chambly, Quebec!
Here's my take on the Don De Dieu:
ABV: 9.0%
IBU: 10.5
Color: opaque, pale, cloudy golden apple
Head: very thin; dissipates quickly
Nose: caramel malt, funky yeast, pineapple syrup, tangerine, mango, clove honey, a hint of vanilla and spices
Mouthfeel: high carbonation, sharp, crisp, somewhat sticky and fuzzy
Flavor: complex, fruity, malty, slightly nutty, and yeasty; notes of pineapple, ginger, clove, slight booziness
Finish: Nice and clean with just a hint of spicy ginger.
And here's my take on TesseracT's "Altered State":
Release: 2nd studio album released May 12th, 2013
Critical reception: New Noise Magazine gave the album a 5 out of 5 star rating, stating: ""Altered State" is not only a masterpiece of progressive metal, this is truly one of the greatest albums ever made, period." Online magazine, The Monolith called "Altered State": "probably one of the most complete examples of the genre to date."
Personnel: Ashe O'Hara – vocals; Acle Kahney – guitars; James Monteith – guitars; Amos Williams – bass guitars; Jay Postones – drums/percussion
Sound: Incredibly complex, thought provoking, and emotional. Characterized by polyrhythmic riffs, layered sound, and odd tempos and time signatures with clean, accessible, yet brilliant vocals by O'Hara.
Lyrics: A bit dark, yet heartfelt, intense, and honest.
Overall: A fantastically brilliant musical journey that definitely matches and feeds off the complexities of the Don De Dieu! Go buy both!!
Cheers!!
