April 27th , 2014 - Rock And Roll Rising Over!

Hey there my rockin' friends!!  The Meista here pairing the classic "Rock And Roll Over" by KISS and a Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA from the Utah Brewers Cooperative!

As you can probably tell from the photo, I really, really like this album!  Recorded and released in 1976, "Rock And Roll Over" is the 5th studio album by American monster rockers KISS and quite possibly their best ever (the album cover is definitely the coolest!).  This album is pure adrenaline, high-octane rock and roll!  Along with a plethora of hits, it contains one of my all-time favorite KISS tracks, the unsung heroic (Peter Criss lead vocal) tracks, "Baby Driver"!  And how 'bout that solo guitar work by Ace on "Love 'Em And Leave 'Em " and "Makin' Love"?!  Hells yeah!  In my humble opinion, this is the ultimate KISS album and a must for any mid-70s hard rock fan!  I think the track list speaks for itself:
  1. I Want You
  2. Take Me
  3. Calling Dr. Love
  4. Ladies Room
  5. Baby Driver
  6. Love 'Em And Leave 'Em
  7. Mr. Speed
  8. See You In Your Dreams
  9. Hard Luck Woman
  10. Makin' Love
(Interestingly enough, Paul Stanley originally wanted "Hard Luck Woman" to be sung by Rod Stewart, but Gene Simmons insisted Criss sing the song instead.)

Like "Rock And Roll Over", Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA is a rock and roll monster!  Coming in at 9% ABV and 75 IBUs, the Hop Rising will make you sit down and take notice!  It pours a slightly hazy copper-amber with a huge frothy head that leaves incredibly intricate and sustained lacing.  The nose is very malty and very sweet, especially for an IPA.  There are aromas of burnt toffee, caramel, sweet meats, raisin cinnamon bread, and fresh hops and juniper.  And those malt aromas really make an impact!  For an IPA, the mouthfeel is very smooth, very velvety.  The flavor is a wonderful balance of sweet malt goodness and bitter hop sharpness.  There are big notes of soft caramel and burnt toffee blended with bitter pine resin and summer grass.  It finishes with a very tart and bitter note... maybe lemon zest or orange marmalade?

Cheers... and rock on!!  I'll "see you in your dreams tonight"!
